Isn't that Darren Aronofsky's new film? I get hyped for anything he makes.
Yep. You know, but for those that don’t he did Black Swan, the wrestler, and requiem for a dream.

Sadly the gala opening is already sold out at TIFF by the time my ‘insider’ level got a shot at tickets today.

I've always thought he was a pretty solid actor, so I hope he's finally found a platform on which to prove himself to be great.
I will say that I have doubts, though.
I know, for sure, that he's solid, but I'm not sure he's great. Hopefully I will be proven wrong.

As it currently stands, I suspect some of the applause is based on his bravery for calling out various high-rollers in Hollywood.
And that is 1000000% worth applauding. Even moreso than some random acting gig. To be honest, the acting is basically unimportant compared to how much effort and willpower it takes to combat these kinds of evil people.

I just don't like misleading headlines. :messenger_unamused:

What happened to him? He used to be one my favorite actors back in the Tarzan and Mummy days.

Why did he get so fat??

He was in great shape up until mid 2008 when he got divorced & she took him for everything. Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008) & Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon emperor (2008) were his last movies in which he looked liked how we remember him.

Started w/ filming Extraordinary Measures in 2009 (2010 release) & after you can see him progressively getting fatter in each role due to depression from divorce etc.

I do hope he finds peace, if only for his health long term.

He also had some serious injuries from doing all his own stunts. Plus getting blacklisted after being sexually assaulted then taken to the cleaners by his ex

And everyone was making a meme out of him in the meantime.

I definitely like to see him getting recognition for his skills. Much like RDJ, rough roads in that business can lead to redemption in the strangest ways.

If he wanted to, this dude can hit the gym and drop 50 lbs to be the next big star in Hollywood, along with the wisdom from years of trauma that come with that background.

I got nothing but love for Brendan Fraser and I hope the best for him. Big props.

Lost his career, mum, wife, money, and health over the span of a few years. When all of that happens and you're considered likeable, people want you to win.

He's got Internet beloved status, and that sort of golden aura means good publicity follows you wherever you go. From a business perspective that makes someone easy to cast. It's real world karma, in a sense. It certainly didn't do anything to hurt Keanu, and Brendan has had a worse time of it.

We're going to see more of Brendan Fraser, and that's not a bad thing.

There's no one in Hollywood that deserves a comeback like this more than he does, after everything he's gone through.

Hope the movie is great and he gets this!

Fuck yes. Well deserved. In another life he would still be up there still as one of the best action/comedy stars of all time.
Forget the rock.

He has more charisma

Not really related to his acting skills, but Brendan Fraser has showed time and time again that he is actually a really good person.

All the best for him.

I've read a interview a few years back where he more or less states that he doesn't care about being fit and he won't go back to being an action star. More or less implied also, that as long as you're fit and you have a pretty guy gravitas you're not getting good parts often.

Rather, being fit was work, his body was falling apart and he didn't enjoy it. He's was happy he didn't have to do that anymore, didn't sound bitter about it.

He clearly has to take more care with his body than he is doing now, but being fat for him is not something that frustrates him, I don't think he'll be "fit" ever again.

School Ties 2, make it happen. Just gotta get Matt Damon and Ben Affleck on board.

I'm down for any Aronofsky film so I'll have to check this out. Glad Fraser is seeing some success again. A well deserved comeback.
