My brother just got a 2023 Toyota Highlander and every 4th car you pass flashes you because they think your brights are on.

The brights are not on.



Can anyone explain why the auto industry is now doing this?

Yeah I never flash my lights at someone to let them know they have their brights on anymore just in case it's one of these and then the turn their actual brights on and I'm staring into a super nova.

The "high beams" on his SUV are seemingly just a flap that lights up everything above the 6 ft high plane. Nothing gets brighter in the area you want (below the 6ft plane). It's like you'd only want to use the brights if you wanted to see a racoon up in a tree.

Old boomers with terrible night vision are the only people who can afford new cars now cause even every man shit mobiles cost over $50K, so manufacturers are giving old boomers their night time reading glasses.

Not a joke, the average new car transaction is over $50,000, being bought by an average age of 56.

This, no way this is done on purpose or by default. Wouldn't it actually be illegal? Brights are a road hazard if used in proximity of other cars.

It's a common problem, especially with LED headlights in the 6500k range, which are far brighter and whiter than the old halogen bulbs that had a yellow tint.

My GMC Sierra pickup truck has super bright lights so folks think i have high beam on. Sometimes i just turn it on and then off so cars can see me turning high beam off. Still get the usual idiots that think i have high beam on after turning it off.

It's even worse for me as I have astigmatism. Night driving is bad enough but stupid LED headlights temporarily blind me as they drive past. Only a couple of days ago my car saved me from rear ending the car in front because of its radar emergency brake system because I couldn't or barely could see it.

It's gotten so bad, that here in the UK they are even considering regulating the brightness of vehicle lights.

The temperature of the light is also a massive issue. I understand the very yellow hues weren't the best in terms of being able to see hazards, but the lights are now a hazard themselves.

It doesn't help that in an attempt to look 'modern', cars are festooned with light bars and worst of all, light-up logos. The most egregious I've seen is light up text of the manufacturer's name.

I think it has to do with the temperature of light they put in the headlight. It use to be a yellow temp and now it is a white or blue temp and it blinds you.

The idiots are the dumb fucks making these modern cars. Modern car lights are an actual problem with how high and bright they are. And these auto adjusting lights never react properly.

This is a very inaccurate representation of astigmatism. It looks nothing like this.
However, being astigmatic, I can attest to how much of a scourge it is, especially when dealing with artificial light sources.

It doesn't help that in an attempt to look 'modern', cars are festooned with lightal bars and worst of all, light-up logos. The most egregious I've seen is light up text of the manufacturer's name.

I've seen this on an Opel just last night. That detail would be enough for me to write off that car completely, if I were in the market for a new car.

My F150 Lightning has insanely bright LED headlights with adaptive anti glare for oncoming traffic and I never get flashed

Works like this keeping oncoming cars in a dark spot
