Hey guys thought u might like this, we hashed this out this morning with http://www.anpark.com/software.aspx < this app.

Basically you can run this prorgram from your Xbox360 using XP MCE with the more programs option

Anthony Park has invented software that will allow you to browse the internet with the Media Center Edition remote. This means, technically, that you can go to the more programs tab on your Xbox360 and run the program. Then you can use the remote to surf the internet on your Xbox360.

*Update: This has been confirmed working, (Thanks, 9). In order to surf to different websites, go to a folder in your My Documents that is named MCE# (# is a number). In this folder is a favorites folder, simply copy yours over.

Is there a way to legally get a copy of Windows Media Center without buying a new PC? Or will Vista have all the cool features of MCE when it'll be released later this year?

I thought you could download something from MS to gain connectivity to yourr 360 if you didnt have the MCE.

Only to stream mp3s and pictures. Doesn't support video because they want you to buy MCE, which is ridiculously fucking stupid. No MCE apps either...

I'm just toughing it out for Vista myself.

Wait until PS3 comes out. At that point Microsoft will have no choice but to open things up for everyone and support more formats.

theres the high res, the flash of the camera makes the green light very faint

The DVD tray is open so it has to be on. When it's powered down the tray closes. It's just that the flash from the camera makes the green power light hard to see.

I dont know why MS doesnt have this functionality out of the box.

C'mon MS! Don't limit yourselves like this.

np at all i know how the web is trsut me, no harm done

and i will test usb kb functionality right now, gimmie a minute :)

edit: no dice on the usb kb i think because basically it takes IE to render it in the background (well IE's render engine), and shows u liek a pic of it, so u can go to google and links work, but u cant type in a seach, sucks but we are still working on it

You know, I'm surprised that MS wouldn't try to do some sort of basic web browser as part of the X360 OS.

If they truly want this little white box to do everything, make it a bit more accessible.

Outcast

becasue the system life is over and they can never release patches

EH?

I'm sure they could find a away to include a web browser into a dashboard update.
It's Microsoft.... they can do pretty much anything..

compatability issues with MCE suck . capture wise, theres only a handful of cards that work, then you have to buy proprietary software for guides and other tv stuff....but if you just want to stream mpg's and wmv's its would work fine

Firefox 360?

XFFOX 360

How does this work exactly (not having a 360). I have always been intrigued by web browsing on TV ... can you only access links through a list of favourites? and then just click through links using the joypad controlled cursor? Of can you somehow input your own URLs?

i was being sarcastic and replying to your previous post where you were saying they should have included it outta the box and that they should do more to push for it . im saying give them i chance ill bet within 6 months theyll enable browsing, just like the psp

I too am hoping that Sony adds something like this to their PS3 but with the ability to play other formats whether it needs to be transcodedin your PC or not. That would really give microsoft a run for their money.

I'm using a ATI All-in-Wonder 9600 and capturing works fine for me. Theres a list for compatability, but so far I love MCE, seems faster and sleeker than XP in general

Sacrcasm detector = broken.

But yes I look for them to do a browser update with keyboard support within the next couple months.

Now if they could do something about recognizing mice I'd be a happy camper.

*flashback times*
I remember the good old days on 56K when I'd use the DC to browse the web on my TV.... DC mouse and Keyboard. Ah those were the days....

Hell, my DC was my only form of web browsing for a few months my my old PC died.

that little bastard could do it all..... *sniff*

wrong...media center is xp pro minus the abilty to join to a domain. I know you can't on home either, but mce has most pro features

It is using the MCE PC to render an image of the Website which it displays on the 360, but you will not be able to enter any text. (For Example, google wouldn't be useful because you cannot enter text.) However you are able to follow links. No, the USB Keyboard does not work with this as of yet. This also means the likelyhood of getting a virus on your Xbox360 is next to nothing. The browser is basically showing you an image of a browser running on your PC

ahh I had my hopes up this was a real way to surf the internet on Xbox 360. if you don't have a PC this won't work.

Dreamcast wins (j/k)

Browsing the Internet on the Dreamcast performed as well as Half-Life 2 BC performs on the Xbox 360.

Holy uninteresting feature, Batman!
Damn, I love technology today. So many features that are just pointless and dumb!
