Steve Carell is making a deal to star for Universal in "Evan Almighty." He'll likely increase his $500,000 salary for "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" at least tenfold.

Conceived for Jim Carrey until he declined to reprise his role in "Bruce Almighty," sequel will take the news anchor character Carell played in that film and put him on an Almighty-inspired quest to build an ark in preparation for a great flood.

Tom Shadyac will return as director, and Morgan Freeman is negotiating to encore as God. Steve Oedekerk wrote the script. Plans are for the film to begin production early next year.

I know I'm supposed to hate these sorts of sequels.... but the talent is still there and Carell should do a great job. Should be good.

The untcut version that only exists as an extra on the DVD of Steve's Chosen One character getting his ass BEAT in that final fight is one of the funniest g*ddamn things I have seen in my life... I really need to time how long that combo was....

Of that scene I mean..... the version that is in the movie is an edited version... but one of the extras on the DVD is the uncut version of scene... much longer.

That movie stars Tony Danza... that immediately disqualifies it from being better at anything.

The man has his own daytime tv show, okay?

Carell cant carry a comedy like Jim Carrey can. They better get him a good supporting cast or this movie will suck.

maybe not "like Jim Carrey can", but he can definitly hold his own. I wouldn't be surprised if I enjoyed this sequel more then the original.

Daytime shows, aka land of the washed-up actors?

Indeed. When his hair caught on fire I nearly fell off my couch.

This man speaks the truth.

It better....

I must've been in a different theater or something because Kung Pow was the very first movie EVER that nearly put me to sleep in the theater.

Why because some of us liked it and others(like you) didn't? That's no different than any other movie that gets talk about on this forum. ;)

I don't think I've ever seen a universally like film discussed here. I don't think such a beast exists.

OK please tell me. Am I the only one who found the movie highly unfunny and completely retarded? I laughed 2-3 times in the whole movie and the stupid "God doesn't interfiere because then everyone would win the lottery" concept was very very annoying.

I thought it was pretty bad except for a few great Carey moments. Thats why I think a sequal would be a disaster without him. Off topic kinda but Carey needs to get back to making straight comedys. Im tired of this cheesy crap where he finds himself at the end and learns a life lesson. How about a sequel to Cable Guy, Ace Ventura or Me Myself and Irene. Even another Dumb and Dumber would be awesome. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is the exception, that movie was great. Im just saying if hes gonna do a comedy he should go all out. Thats what people want to see.

You like Cable Guy, Ace Ventura, and Me Myself and Irene better than Dumb and Dumber?

He tridents a guy, and rides a bear.

Not a bear, a furry tractor.

Edit : I don't know what you are trying to accomplish with all your negative comments Jett, but you ain't got anything on Bog.

I really think Bruce Almighty was the least funny out of all Jim Carrey movies, and Kung Pow was and hour and a half of my life I'll never get back. So this makes for a combo that I will probably not enjoy, even though I love Steve Carell.

The combo of a movie you didn't like and the guy who wrote that movie?

Anybody not find Steve Carell funny?

*raises my hand*

He was honestly the funniest reporter on TDS for a while there. His occasional stints on there these days pale in comparison. I haven't any of his movies, though.

I loved the Steve on Steve segments. Carrell and Colbert...it don't get much better than that. PEACE.

I was really dissapointed when I saw Bruce Almighty. I remember watching the previews and thinking it was a genius idea, with Jim Carrey playing with God's powers. I was really saddened to find out that it slowly became less of a comedy and more of a love flick (with Bruce trying to get with Jennifer Aniston).

I'm not sure how the movie will hold without Carrey reprising, but hopefully the sequel will be...a better comedy (assuming that's where they're going with this).
