bttp: Electroplankton

So every now and then, I'm firing up Electroplankton and play for some time, noting nice sounding patterns and stuff.
Then I started to acquire carts for all my DS models and now I have 5 copies and made this 3-part-piece:

I don't know what it is about this game, it has weird choices concerning note scales and controls, not to mention not being able to save anything (it's more of an instrument but not to directly play notes...)
But most of it is just so charming and cute and the sounds are pretty cool nonetheless.

You can currently buy it in the DSi - eShop, but only each Plankton seperately. I'd recommend Hanenbow or Rec-Rec for a taste.

I am waiting for a sequel for so long now. Where is it, Nintendo? Online collaborations, Local "multiplayer", saving your performance & showcasing it. etc. It would be so nice. Nintendo even teased us by including a stage in Smash Brawl...

So yeah. I love Electroplankton, how about you? :)

this is really relaxing, ty

i remember this being one of the first little experiences I played on my first ever nintendo ds, it had a mystic alure because my friend imported his copy from japan

Incredible work. Really pleasant to listen to this.

It feels like Electroplankton was created with this very thing in mind, even if it released so early on DS's lifetime. It would be excellent if Nintendo released a new one on the eShop and promoted use along with other versions of the game, which some users may have from cart or DSiWare. Extra good if it supports Download Play for players that have more than one system -- it would be the most substantial use of Download Play yet.

This is wonderful! Thank you for sharing. I have very little training with music, but Electroplankton was an accessible enough experience that I was able to get something out of it. Glad people like you are doing great things with it.

Oh wow thank you guys for the compliments!

kirbyfan407: Mind you, I don't play any traditional instrument. I just practice until I think it sounds nice enough and didn't screw up too much while recording :) Just playing around with Electroplankton is fun, for example playing along other music.

Mogwai sampled Hanenbow in their song Kings Meadow which released shortly after Electroplankton.

It's one of the few DS games I held onto. I am confident in decades to come that era of the DS will be one I look back on very fondly.

That's really cool and you can clearly hear the sound. However, some of the notes don't seem to fit with the melody of the song, which is a problem with EP. It's not really possible to play sheet music, it's more for experimenting and having fun
