here is what Im thinking

CPU AMD Athlon 64 3500+ $290.00

Mobo ASUS "A8V Deluxe" VIA K8T800 $129.00

Ram (2x) Kingston 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 $79.00

or should I go with a PCI-E mobo?

The person is the type to only update his stuff every like 4 years (his current pc is like a p3 500)

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
I don't see the point of PCI-E personally. I like having as many PCI slots as I can get. I haven't kept up with the new breed of mobo's, but isn't there a nForce Athlon 64 chipset? I try to stay away from VIA.

Get Crucial or Corsair over Kingston.

If he isn't an upgrader then PCI express will be useless to him. However in the future only the best gfx cards might come in PCI-E. Sort of how some people got left out in the cold when AGP was becoming popular and they only had PCI slots. I personally want to know what point there is for x1 PCI-E. It isn't any faster than PCI the only thing I can see is that it provides a better power flow.
