I Never... I Swear... I Never Cut and Burn To CDROM

Well, tonight I did it... I preach to family... never CUT, always COPY and BURN... DELETE if you are sure the CD-R was successful...

I am buying a new PC and decided to backup my pictures and files for the last 2 months...

What did I do... I CUT to the CD burner and 8 folders with tons of my baby girls pictures... all successful...

I said "hey, I will backup Turbo Grafx emulation and Super Nintendo"... I opened a video of my daughter during the write process... well the write process failed...

Now everything on the CD-R Memorex 700MB is gone... I boiled it for 3 minutes and nothing is on it... WEIRD THING... under Properties it displays 0MB used 272,855MB free...

So, the files are on there... but I cannot view them because the last write failed and probably left the CD-R in some funky state...

Can you re-pair a failed write?

Moral of the story... don't steal games (emulation), it will get you in the end!

works for Gamestop (lol)
Cut and paste to a CD-R? How the hell...

Assuming you havent written too much to the HDD, arent there ways to recover that data? I'm not sure but you might have a chance to get those files back

I believe win XP has built-in support for CD burners, so you can cut & paste or copy & paste to a CD-R like any other folder and windows handles the actual burning. Not sure though - is this what you did?

They wouldn't be in your temporary files soemwhere on the HDD? Perform a search for one of the file names or folders on the entire HDD. I hope you find your pics man, that would freakin' SUCK.

Hmm... if it's a multisession CD with more than one sessions, you should be able to see the first session with some kind of program that allows you to select which session you want to read. Er... I can't remember the name of the program that did this.

It is Windows XP and you can Cut folders/files to the CDROM and click Write Files To CD. The first session had like 8 folders and files, that session was fine and I could view them on the CDROM when completed.

The problem happened when I started session two, it failed now I cannot see anything on the CDROM...

If you guys know a program... sweet... I will search the entire hard drive to see if it placed them somewhere, but they are out of the original folders.

windows puts them in a temp folder during the whole process. I don't know where it is though, and its probably gone from there if you restarted your computer since.

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
Shouldn't the files still be somewhere in a temp directory?

*looks up*

Nevermind.

Well, I did reboot last night thinking the OS was out of whack and maybe the burn would finish after the reboot... NOPE!

I will check TEMP directories, but they are probably gone... what can you do, oh well!

The first thing you can do is get a real burning app so that this never occurs again. I hear that Nero thingie is wonderful. :D
