PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS oh god i am drowning in them
When you tell someone "We'll call you this afternoon, either way." in regards to a job offer, and you don't call, fuck you.
I swear to god, I've been waiting around for 4 fucking hours now and no call. That's great. Thank you for not only ruining my afternoon, but also, lying to me. That's great. I really appreciate it.
How the fuck can you be so inconsiderate? Haven't made your decision yet? Shoot out a fucking email, it takes how long? And don't tell me you forgot to do such, because you said you'd be spending the afternoon determining who got the job.
God. Fucking. Damnit.

Corporate America is a joke. The sooner your learn this the better off you will be in life.

Sadly, knowing this doesn't pay the bills.

If they don't call you, that's their way of saying fuck off!

Why do you DESERVE a callback?

You don't understand the system!

Um, I always have HR call my interview subjects back whether I hire them or not. It's only fair - plus I hated it when I was on the other end and waiting for a call.

I realize you're being sarcastic, but still. And I don't even deserve shit, they offered to do it, I didn't even ask. These idiots said they'd call for a second interview by wednesday, and they called Thursday. Now I need to drop my classes by monday if I got the job, and we discussed this. They said they understood and would let me know this afternoon. So now I'm in limbo if I'm getting the "Fuck off" or "We're still retarded."
Very few things get me as irritated as flat out lying.

Of course not, but you won't be so surprised when you don't get that promised phone call if you keep what I said in mind. :) It doesn't apply to all people of course but generally speaking most corporations don't give a shit. I used to work with a guy that went on an interview for a big company for an "IT position." It was like two hours from where he lived. But he took a chance and went on the interview even though it really didn't describe things well. It said Windows experience is required and some Linux experience is needed as well, although not required for the job.

So after his two hour trip he goes into an office with like five guys, and their boss is like "Ok, sit down. Do you know Red Hat Linux pretty well?" And he was like "No, but I do know some Windo--" "OK, thanks, but I have other things to do and you aren't the kind of employee I am looking for right now." They left the room and he was expected to leave. COLD AS ICE. He wasn't even in there for like 30 seconds.

Stuff like that is bullshit. The listing clearly stated that while Linux experience would be nice, it would not be required, and they would still be interested in interviewing people that just know Windows. And with the way the description was typed... it seemed like they were willing to interview people who were just getting their feet wet in Windows all the way up to a Linux guru.

And bish is right. Call them back. Be very straightforward and serious (NOT rude) with them. You'll put them on the spot and I bet you'll have to mute your phone while they stumble with their words and try to come up with some bullshit answer so you can laugh. :p

Well, I waited too long to call them back. Fuck.

It's never too late. Call them tomorrow between 9:00 and 11:00. They WILL NOT be expecting you. If anything they were expecting you to call them today because they knew they didn't call like they said they would. You'll feel better, trust me.

It's friday, chief. :( Ain't gonna be no one there tomorrow.
But I get what you mean. And unfortunately, I have class on monday until 2pm, so I can't even do anything anyway. Awesome.

take off from class. ;)

I hate that shit too. But odds are if they don't call you back, it's because their first choice is making a decision... They can't dump you if they don't know which candidate they want.

Now go back out there and look for another gig. It's just like dating, you harp on something lost, you keep yourself out of the game.

Actually, I can't keep looking. If I don't have an offer by monday, I can't drop my classes and get my money back. Luckily, I have my part time job.
Required (paid) internships are awesome!
Well, I can start looking for Winter quarter.

wtf is this, your first job interview ever?

I've had plenty, but I've always gotten calls when promised.

Don't wait for them to give you a callback. Be persistent and proactive.

What happens in most offices is this: Hiring Manager wants Canidate B. Hiring Team Member A wants Canidate A. Hiring Team Member B wants Canidate C. Hiring Manager's Boss wants coffee. Hiring Manager has to persuade both Hiring Team Members over to his point of view, justify the hire to his boss after the decision has been made and agreed to by both Hiring Team Members and the Hiring Manager, and fetch coffee for the boss (among many other responsibilities) since the person who normally does that (you) has not been hired yet.

Coordinating this circus can sometimes take quite a while, and normal people forget to do things and let deadlines slip. You end up falling through the cracks as a result.

Yeah, you're all quite right.
My rage is starting to subside. Oh well, at least I learned a few things from this experience.

Did it occur to you the business people don't exist to give phonecalls to people so they can feel better?

Many businesses don't even have HR departments and its up to the manager or the supervisor to do his regular job plus interview, hire, fire, check references of the new hires etc. That's how so many scum of the earth employees get hired because managers just rush through an app they think is good enough from the interview.

I work for a company that help both major corporations and smaller businesses with their HR needs and believe me, business people don't return calls because they're actually busy keeping the economy running. Many of our clients and the people we work with don't return our calls all the time eithe and we have to chase them down by either calling them back or making sure they get our messages for the 3rd time. If people don't want to be bothered, they'd tell you. Otherwise, keep plugging away.

Take initiative. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if them not calling you back is part of the recruitment process to see if you'd take the initiative to call them back.

Then don't leave the end of an interview as "we'll call you back, hired or not."

And would you business people stop talking about the economy in such a pretentious manor, like it's some 80 year old grandma on life support.

Ok, so tomorrow's Saturday. Call them on Monday. It'll be even more entertaining because they probably won't remember at first. You have nothing to lose by calling them even if they get pissed.

Nothing to do with pretension. It may well just be they have more important things to attend to, like keeping the business running. As I noted im my post, many businesses today unload a lot of the HR responsibilities onto department managers who have others things to do. And even firms with dedicated HR departments may be too busy with recruiting several hundred people in September, and yes, September is a busy season for HR, to return calls.

It's not that hard to call them back. In my work, our clients, people who pay us to do work for them, don't return calls routinely as well. And most of the time, they're just busy and or they put it off to the next day because they jast ran out of time and calling us back is #100 in their list of things to do.

I've been waiting 3 weeks to hear back.

I think it took Midway somethign like 3 months from the point where they said they were interested to the point when they finally said 'no'

And when the cops came through
Me and Dre stood next to a burnt down house
Wit a can full of gas and a hand full of matches
And still weren't found out
