Buying The Witcher 3 dillema

So!

Some time ago when I first played the Witcher 3 ten or so hours in I had a MASSIVE part of the game utterly ruined for me.

Geralt's friend getting hanged

Now, having this plot point ruined for me turned me off from playing the rest of the game as I feel how can I enjoy the rest of the story when such a massive part was ruined for me and spoiled in advance?

Should I return to the game and try and ignore this? I'm still upset about it, years later. Does the narrative have other good twists and turns that it's worth me sticking with despite the major spoiler having been ruined for me the first time around?

Thanks everyone!

It's one of the best games of the generation imo. It's a must play. The complete edition is $15 on PSN right now.

Jesus Christ it's a video game and part of the plot

so you prolly stopped watching "Power" on Starz because many of major characters got capped in the head?

Yes it's part of the plot of a massive game with a huge story, how would you feel having a major part of a story ruined for you with your favourite movie, game or book?

People hate spoilers for a reason, stop talking like they don't.

The point of the question is rather if its worth playing through having a big part of the game already given away in advance.

People need to tone down their sarcastic comments. If you don't have anything proper worth saying, then just shut the fuck up. No one is asking you to contribute and behave like a dick.

Yes, it's worth it.

yes, there's plenty of other surprises and great parts of the game.

If you enjoyed what you've played, you should with %100 certainty keep playing the game, it's incredible. Be sure to snag the GOTY/Deluxe edition, the DLC is excellent.

I would say there is a whole lot more to the story than just that one thing. While it is big, it in no way should spoil the rest of the overall plot. The DLCs are fantastic too and completely unrelated to your spoiler from what I can recall.

If you liked what you had played in the first ten hours you are only punishing yourself boycotting it because someone spoiled one small piece of it.

Is it worth playing through what has been, arguably, one of the best games of the last decade because of a minor plot point?

How does it even need to be asked? But not only that, how can we possibly tell how you are going to perceive the rest of the game given your reasoning for being turned off in the first place? I'll tell you what'd turn me off more than anything - experiencing everything that this game has to offer on the god awful Switch version.

Grow up.

Just get it ! You won't be disappointed with the whole package 😃

The hanging part isn't a major spoiler in the grand scheme of things, when you consider everything else the game has. You should finish it.

Honestly, I don't even remember that part of the game. Rest assured there are way more memorable parts of the game.

Man just get it and enjoy, and for that spoiler don't worry about it, it's so tiny in a big game it doesn't matter that much, and be sure to get game of the year edition, the two dlcs add alot to the experience and far exceeds the main story.

Since he didn't specify, the only hanging scenes I know of involving someone Geralt knows can be kept from happening depending on your decisions, so you probably kept it from happening.

I've played over 130 hours of the game and its DLC, and granted it's been a while since I finished it, but I don't recall the moment you're mentioning, OP. Perhaps it's preventable, but even if I'm just forgetting it, it probably means it's not that huge of a plot point in the grand scheme of things. There's so much great stuff in that game that I can't not recommend you keep playing.

So that we are on the same page ... spoilers inbound.

I assumed he meant the hanging of the Baron? Which can be prevented But pretty much requires you to sacrifice some orphans to the Crones iirc, so that they don't curse his wife, which leads to his suicude

That's the first one that came to my head.
Of course saving them also requires freeing something worse than the Crones, which also destroys a village. Choices!

Played through the game and both DLC twice, most recently a month or two ago. I don't recall any of Geralt's friends being hanged.

And don't buy the worst version of the game, if you have any other options.

I have 138 hours on The Witcher 3 + DLC and don't even remember anyone getting hanged.

I have no idea what op is on about either and I've got over 200 hours in the game.

op I'd just play the game as its excellent and one of the best of this generation, can't recommend it enough.

Hopefully this pic of an alternative outcome for the BB might raise your spirits a bit.

Like others have said there are more outcomes to that scenario and even if you know them all, at the end of the day it is just a fucking side quest my dude. A great one but still something that is weak compared to the whole story if you include the expansions.

OP, that particular thing doesn't happen in the way you've been told (it's not a hanging, it's much worse), and despite that it's a NEGATIVE outcome to a choice you will have made earlier in the game (actually now I think about it, it's SEVERAL bad choices, so you really have to fuck up to get that ending) - there are far far FAR more worse spoilers we could give you, be in no doubt.

However, you should really should play the game, it's fucking amazing.

She endures an inquisition, is tortured and ends up being burnt to death on a stake in the market square while a baying mob looks on.

That's not even a major plot spoiler. Not by a long shot. If you enjoyed playing the game, you should definitely go back to it and make sure to grab both DLCs as they are very good

Let me put it this way - I usually hate AAA games and i feel the combat in Witcher 3 is mediocre yet i've started a second playthrough

Short answer, yes. It's best to think of the Wicther 3 as a compendium or anthology of interlinked stories, with open world fluff as well (monster nests etc).

However, 10 hours in and if it's the character we think it is, then he's not your friend and there are far more interesting characters coming along. Also, that plot point is changeable based on your choices. I got that plot point and it's just the tie off to the story before moving on. He was never going to be a character that stayed with you for the whole game anyway.......

There are plenty more quests and sidequests which are memorable. The Bloody Baron gets all the plaudits but there are proper solid stories throughout.

I don't even remember what you're talking about ... must've not been important.

shouldn't effect enjoyment with the game at all and it's so goddamn good that it must be played.

and spoilers never ruin anything... if a story, movie, game is legitimately good it doesn't rest on some plot twist to enjoy.

I read spoilers for endgame or whatever the second thanos movie was... they let me know the movie was trash... and behold it was Indeed trash, and insulting to anyone who's seen back to the future 2 ...

Dude, you are completely overreacting due to some spoiler that is just one possible outcome and not at all the "big part" you make it out to be.
Go play the game you fool.

I assume you mean
The Baron

It's not a massive part of the game. It's a significant part of the game early on. It's a potential outcome for that character based on your choices. You might get it. You might not.

I would not let this put me off playing the rest of the game. Once you get past that part you have a solid 100-120 hours ahead of you. Usually I average about 150 hours per playthrough. So as you can see that whole plot takes place early on. Ultimately it has little important in the main story. It's just an interesting character you meet and quickly forget about.

I don't like spoilers but I did play through the game knowing what happens to a major character. Didn't stop me playing or enjoying it. Spoilers suck but try not let it ruin the experience. When something gets spoiled for me I just like to try enjoy seeing how things end up that way. It's not so much about arriving at the destination but the journey there.

OP to save the Baron you must

first you need to bury the Barons unborn daughter, do not kill it and then the 2nd part is to kill the witch in the tree I think the witch is a side quest given to you after you discovered the Witches of Crook back bog

Also play the Baron at Gwent before you go to Crook back bog.

It took me 3 play throughs until I got the best ending with all the main Characters living. Some endings of the game can be decided when you hit Kaer Morean which can be very frustrating, I had to use a guide to discover how to get the best outcome.

To be fair

That village act like a pignia farm for the Crones, so I OK with that. I mean, people make kids just for give to the Crones? No sir.

OP, I suggest you not get the game if you're worry about that you spoiler tag. Don't get me wrong, is an amazing game besides the shit combat, but things like you mention will happen depends of the choise you make foward the story, actually some even worst.

The game is huge especially if you are doing the side quests and collecting the Gwent cards but it is well worth it. W3 is still in my top 3 GOTG so far

It's an amazing game with a ton of plot twists. Your really missing out if you pass it up OP, it's one of the very best if not the best game of this generation. Do yourself a favor and finish the main story then move on to the DLC.

i got over playing the megaman zero series when i realized x was no longer among with the main cast. so you should do the same with the witcher 3.

your level is pretty much meaningless except as an indicator of how fast in the main story you are. it scales with the story. everyone more or less finishes at the same level. XP is largely given out by completing the main quests. by the end of the base game you should be around 32-35. you will go from level 27 to low 30's at one point because it's just constant main quest stuff for a good while. if i remember correctly, i finished the first expansion at around 40. with the second you should get to about 50.

for me i average about 150 hours per play through of the entire game. my first playthrough of the base game was 110 hours. when i was rushing through it (skipping dialogue/cutscenes/fast travelling) i did it in about 90 hours. the first expansion at a leisurely pace took me 16 hours the first time. blood and wine takes me about 30-35 hours.

Did you do a run through on deathmarch after ng+? Wondering what the experience is like.
