First of all he says "communist China" which is stupid because china has been going from communism for many years. He even once defended his characterization of China by claiming that because the Communist is in control of China then they is Communist. That argument is dumb . Communism is not a political system but an economic one. Even Karl Marx envisioned a democracy with a Communist economic system. Lou Dobbs has bachelors degree in economics from Harvard. He should know better than to say stupid things.

China is a country who is going to do what's best for them. They have made economic progress that is a model for any country aspiring to progress in this world. The U.S. trade deficit is a result of us wanting Chinese labor and goods. China doesn't force our companies to export America. China made their country attractive for businesses. China improved while we stayed the same. Lou Dobbs shouldn't whine so much about countries that one up us. Instead we should learn what they did right and see if we can apply it to our country. Whining just furthers the world's view that we Americans are a bunch of crybabies.

IMMIGRATION!

WAR ON TEH MIDDLE CLASS!

THE THREAT OF COMMUNIST CHINA!

Lou Dobbs is the most annoying person on television.

I always figured he said communist China so we know when he's talking about China and when he's talking about Taiwan.

By attaching himself to the issue, he thinks if it ever does become an actual topic people are really concerned about (lol) he think can run for office and win. That's my guess.

It gets pretty annoying, especially when he doesn't mention Japan. God those Japanese assholes have been benefiting off of protectionist trade policies while flooding US markets and nobody says anything about it. They'd rather be dumping on China.

fear-mongering over a potential economic superpower. it happened during the 80s and early 90s with Japan, and so it goes now with China as the economic boogeyman.

combined with Lou Dobbs' jingoistic cry against immigration and we have the makings of a nascent nativist here.

As I was about 3.5 feet tall in the early 90's...

What was the fear about Japan? The Walkman would take over the United States (never happened...edit: OK, maybe it did.)? Their cars wo...oh wait.

Japan has an insane surplus against our economy but I don't blame the Japanese. They care about Japan and we keep buying their products over American goods.

That's not really true in practice (and probably not in theory). Restricting economic freedom is going to have huge political implications and repercussions.

that their yearly GDP growth was astronomical and they were starting to spend their corporate surpluses by buying American corporations. or something like that.

In Lou Dobb's defense - while he does talk a whole lot about "Communist China" he mostly attacks our current administration for letting China one-up us. Not China itself. He questions how the administration can allow China to walk all over us. He vilifies Washington more than China itself. And yes, one can argue that calling them "Communist China" is technically sensational media - but who the hell in the media doesn't do it?

And Lou Dobbs states he is an (unaffiliated) independent populist. I mean, yes you can call him conservatitive and he himself used to call himself a "lifelong republican", but he's a huge critic of the current administration.

It's obvious he's not popular with you guys - but he is CNN's 2nd most watched program (behind Larry King).

^^True he does blame the U.S. government a lot for the trade deficit but sometimes I feel Dobbs wants to point his finger to China a lot. China's military upgrades are mentioned on his show. He exaggerates their threat when in reality the U.S. outspend every country in the world on military and by a huge margin. I wonder if he'll put the same attention to the beef recall as he did with toys from China.

Our problems with China is similar with other countries which we have deficits with yet Dobbs singles out China. It's unfair to create hysteria over something that is has been going on for years.
