Can not find OEM 360 Mics; discontinued?

Noticed that the mics are different now when purchased separately. What happened to the old ones that had the mute button on the connector port?

Yeah I was having a look at the mics when I was out shopping the other day, and noticed the old mics with the mute on the bottom had been phased out. The new ones have a basic 3.5mm connector with no grey clamp thingy.
Must have been cheaper for MS to have an in-line remote rather than incorporate it into the base, all I can think of. Certainly follows the more generic designs at least.

Wow that fucking sucks, good thing I already have a mic. The mute button is handy-dandy.

I'm sure they still have a mute button, its just now the controls are in-line, rather than at the base connector.

Yeah you're probably right there. The chatpad does come with a headset in the box, but they gotta standardise everything.

yup.

it's crazy to manufacturetwo different lines of headsets, when they both work with the regular controller.

I have both (one came with my premium, the other with my chatpad) and while I prefer using my wireless headset overall, I like the fact that on the one with inline controls the mute slide is larger. When I'm eating, or coughing, or whatever, I like for it to be really easy to make sure I'm not annoying my teammates.

the reason for the new mics probably isn't a cost issue but to make sure a 360 owner can walk in a store pic up a wired mic and have it work with their system -- no matter what the configuration.

the text messaging pad kind of screwed with this because it offsets the bottom of the pad by several inches, and it's no longer easily possible to twiddle the mute or volume with your thumb, and having that connector stand out past the basic shape would look and feel really clumsy.

that being said, i much prefer the older mics and i couldn't figure out why more 3rd parties didn't do mics with the little wedge + controls. i loved being able to easily mute myself to cough or sneeze or whatever and do this all simply and one-handed.

Edit: *beaten*

Edit2: gamestops usually carry a bunch of the old ones if you don't mind a used one. (some of them have probably never been worn)
