I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
A couple weeks ago I ran for the third time in a week or so, and I had been off my running/cardio routine for quite a few months. The first times I ran, everything was fine. Then a few days later I ran again, and by the time I was done, my ankles hurt like a bitch. I couldn't walk normally for the entire day, and by a few days later my knees were almost as bad. It was worse in my left leg.

Any, I really want to be able to do cardio, and running is the only viable option. But I'm kind of scared of killing my legs again. I just don't know what the fuck happened. I ran just as I had the hundreds of other times I've ran the past year and a half or so, and that had never happened before. The only difference I can think of is that I probably had never ran in such cold weather before. Anyone?

I run several times a week, in the warm and the cold weather. I've noticed that there are times when my ankles, knees, hips, etc. feel differently after I run. Some days I can get in a run, and everything feels fine, legs feel great and recovery is fast. Other times, my knees or ankles will feel sore or more tired, it can vary from run to run. I've also noticed that what I eat leading up to my run can make a difference on how the run goes.

Cold weather can make a difference as wel. It's much easier to pull a muscle in the cold and it can take longer for the muscles to loosen up. Proper warm weather running gear can help with this. I ran all winter long in some very cold temps.

It's possible that your legs are simply tired and worn out. After taking some time off, it's best to start back slow. Go on shorter runs at first, give yourself some extra time to recover, don't over due it. My advice at the moment is to take a few days off and then go for a shorter, easier run to stretch your legs and see how they feel. If you continue to have problems, you may want to look at your running shoes. If they are getting old, the impact on your feet and legs will be worse. I've read you should replace your running shoes about every 300 miles or so. Hope you're up and running again soon.

Running? When it started to get cold this past winter my knee started to hurt just by walking down to the bus stop.

Do you stretch before you run? That can make a huge difference.

he wouldn't get joint pain from not stretching though.

the temperature can effect how your body responds to everything, but i'd give it another shot at the same distance. since you weren't running for awhile, it could just be your body getting back to the rigors, which is far harder to do in cold weather than in moderate temps. if it still hurts pretty bad after three or four different runs (keep your schedule though) then i'd start to wonder more about it. til then just play through it, soulja.
