I've always wanted to take a shot at making MIDIs and I just acquired Cakewalk SONAR 4 Producer Edition. I've been messing around with it and doing stuff like downloading others MIDIs and seeing how they're made.
The only problem is the software is a bit confusing. I don't remember anything from my Jr. High music class except there's something called a 'treble clef'(wtf?!) and from what I've heard from other people, if you want to create MIDIs, you need to have at least a basic understanding of music theory.
So I was wondering if someone could reccomend a good book for beginners to learn music theory and how to read/write sheet music with a through understanding. (And if you know any good books that will teach you how to get stuff done with Cakewalk, that would be good too.
