I'm getting a new computer, I'm looking for a pc thats good for gaming. I'm not looking for the best of the best but something that will be good for quite a while. I've done some looking around and I found this.

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1272531&CatId=0

I configured it to the following specs:

Systemax™ Bengal Intel® Pentium® 4 Socket 775 Built-To-Order Gaming PC
Intel P4 CPU 530 3.0 GHz/800FSB/1M S775
512MB DDR2 PC4200 Non-ECC Memory
Serial ATA (SATA) Hard Drive 80GB (7200 RPM)
52x32x52 CDRW Drive
ATI X600Pro 256MB Video Card w/TV PCI Express
SoundBlaster Live 24-Bit Sound Card (no game port)

I'm going to salvage my old computers parts, so I have another 512 mb RAM to add to this, another 80 gig HD, and a DVD drive

It'll come to a total of $1,199 CAN before taxes.

Is this a good buy? I don't know much about the technical stuff so I'm hoping you guys can tell me if they components are good or not. And is the ATI X600 Pro any good?

Thanks.

I'd also go for 1GB of memory (2 512MB sticks, don't try to get 1 1G stick). It's not that much and you'll be glad you did later down the road, trust me.

Other than the memory and the video card (X600?) it doesn't look bad. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend.

Edit: I didn't see that you had another 512 to put in it. But I don't recommend that. I could have done that when I upgraded but if I did then I'd just be hurting the peak performance of the machine since the other stick would have to clock down and you don't want that (not to mention it simply may not work at all).

How about this for about $1,322.02:

Systemax™ Warhawk AMD Athlon™ 64 Socket 754 Built-To-Order Gaming PC
AMD Athlon 64 3000+/1600FSB/512MB CPU
1GB DDR400 PC3200 Memory (512MB x 2)
Serial ATA (SATA) Hard Drive 80GB (7200 RPM)
52x32x52 CDRW Drive
ATI Radeon 9800Pro 128MB AGP Card w/ TV-Out
Integrated Audio

Is really bad if I have integrated audio?

that second setup is better than the first, but if you want to game for a few years without upgrading I'd still get a better videocard, at least a 6800 or x800, that said the 9800 pro should last you for the next year or so at which point you could upgrade. Then again if upgrading is your thing then getting a PC with a PCIexpress is what you want to do. There are some ATI cards that didn't support AGP for months and only were PCIexpress and that tred is just going to tcontinue until there are little to none new cards that use the AGP slot. The problem lies with the fact that you want a gaming machine and a gaming machine is going to be pricey

That Athlon64 is much better, specially if the motherboard is socket 939, If it's Socket 939 u can upgrade to the recently announced Athlon64 X2 Dual-Cores. The onboard audio will cost u a few fps here and there but u should be fine.

Ok taking into consideration what you guys told me. If future upgrades will rely more on the PCI Express then I think I'm going to settle for this setup.

Systemax™ Bengal Intel® Pentium® 4 Socket 775 Built-To-Order Gaming PC
Intel P4 CPU 530 3.0 GHz/800FSB/1M S775
1GB DDR2 PC4200 Non-ECC Memory (2x512MB)
Serial ATA (SATA) Hard Drive 80GB (7200 RPM)
52x32x52 CDRW Drive
ATI X700Pro 256MB Video Card w/TV PCI Express
Integrated Sound

$1,314.00
