Can we agree the palaces were the worst part of Persona 5?

Palaces were a mixed bag. I liked some. Others, not so much.

Kamoshida's Castle: 3/5
Madarame's Museum: 4/5
Kaneshiro's Bank: 3/5
Futaba's Pyramid: 5/5
Okumura's Spaceport: 1/5
Sae's Casino: 4/5
Shido's Cruise: 3/5

Shido could have been a 4 but dragged on for too long. The spacesport was just shit.

Okumura's was bullshit and all of them were a tad too long for my taste, but at least it was still better than navigating endless procedurally generated hallways.
 
Way too many gimmicks. I vastly preferred exploring Japan and doing the confidant lines tbh.
Its dungeons with puzzles, whats wrong with that? I much prefer Palaces over P3 & P4's dungeons, especially the fact you fight the boring Shadows instead of Demons and there is no demon negotiation and you only get new Demon with boring card mini game.

Also P5's Palaces dungeons is no where near as complex as dungeons in Strange Journey.

Dungeons were meant to give you that uncomfortable hostile vibe vs exploring Japan. I enjoyed them for what they were, I think the palaces were better than the randomly generated stuff we had in previous Personas or "Mementos".

Maybe Spaceport (kinda bad on repeat playthroughs, too long, kinda boring) and Shido (terrible design, only straight lines suck, only good part is the end), rest is good
 
No, I enjoy the palaces a lot. The music, art design, light puzzle-solving, and enemies were all great. I like the day to day stuff and confidant hang-outs, but not enough to play a game with only them. Plus, the combat system and demon designs are two of the major reasons I love Atlus games.

No, they were great and had an addicting loop to them. Mementos, by contrast, felt unnecessary. I still enjoyed it, but that was definitely the game's weakest aspect.
 
As 5 was my first Persona, 4 was a hard one to swallow because of the procedurally generated dungeons, and I eventually dropped 3 because the Tartarus is boredom incarnated.
The palaces in P5 ooze style, and they are interesting to explore. It's completely incomprehensible to me how anyone can not like them, or - heaven forbid - prefer what the series used previously.
 
Do people who start these sort of topics even enjoy games?
My guess is that the OP is currently playing the game and didn't want to fully commit to a LttP, since it's just one aspect of the game.

I haven't played Persona 5 yet, but if these palaces are anything like the grindiest parts of Tartarus from P3 (which I did play), then I could understand his frustrations.

I became much more cautious about choosing which traditional-style JRPGs to purchase and play because of things like that.
 
No, Mementos were way way worse.
Not all Palaces were equally fun, but I'd take those over the endless levels of Tartarus of P3.
 
Is like liking Final Fantasy but doesn't liking random encounters...

I liked ALL the palaces. Much better than randonized mazes
 
To be honest, I found myself wanting to get through the dungeons as fast as possible to see more of the story.
 
The only one that really sucked was the space port one. That puzzle drove me nuts. Otherwise they're all fun ways to explore the characters IMO. But nothing tops P4's dungeon that's themed on Kanji being/being outed as gay. Couldn't make that shit today!
 
Nope, I liked pretty much all of the palaces. Only one I sort of disliked was Futaba's, but it had a banger theme so I'll forgive it lol
 
The localization is the worst part of P5.

I guess you could say, "it was too steep a bridge for me to climb." :messenger_sunglasses:

The localization particularly hurts the 2nd half of the game when characters start to talk gibberish in dramatic story scenes.

However I do agree that palaces are also a problem. They seemed amazing at first, and I think part of that is that the castle and art gallery are among the better palaces, which are the first 2 that you do. But in previous persona games, when you'd had enough dungeon crawling, you could change it up and focus on the life sim part of the game. Then when you get tired of the characters talking all the time, you could go do some dungeon crawling and focus on combat. In P5 the characters constantly stop to talk in palaces so much that instead of dungeon crawling you're often just sitting through more story when you try to explore a dungeon, which is really bad pacing and more than that when there are also localization problems in said story.

nope. Palace is like the unique dungeon in Persona 4, but improved.

it has another dungeon called Mementos which is basically its own version of Tartarus.

Persona 5 offer both.
 
I loved everything about P5, but no the dungeons were fine. If there is one thing I would improve it would be the main story. Characters were great, but main story fell off after Kamoshida's Castle and never really got its groove back. If all the other dungeons/baddies would have been as good and relevant as Kamoshida we would have had the goat. You could tell the writing for Kamoshida's storyline was a step above and it fell off after as well, so like, they just put more effort in the beginning of the game(the part they knew would be the only part many people play). If you quit after finishing that part you probably had a REALLY good impression of the game.
 
Huh? I loved pretty much everything about P5 but the palaces were probably the high point of the entire game. The only expectation was momentos in the end. That felt tacked on and just not fun, but man the other palaces were some of the most fun I've have in gaming in recent memories.

Persona is a dungeon crawler at it's core and complaning about dungeons in it is a bit self-defeating, no?

I think even Spaceport in Royale was fine. Especially after tedious crawling in 3 and 4. They can be annoying on a second run, but how many people would realistically repeat the 100h+ experience?

Strange Journey's dungeons are 100 times better than anything Persona, because they are challenging and require preparation. You can't explore them in one setting. Everything that a good dungeon should offer. Persona is 100% style 0% substance. Persona 5 dungeons are not generated anymore, but it doesn't make them more interesting in any way.
