Can we has back our Iran thread?

Don't worry, I've dispatched our most expert negotiator to advocate reopening the thread with the mods. Now it's only a matter of time...

I agree. I can't remember the last time I've been logging into GAF at least a half dozen times a day to check on a thread. It was a super helpful way to get curated info on a major ongoing world event, often faster (and less biased) than mainstream news sources.

Does GAF even have a way to threadban people? I can't recall ever seeing someone get threadbanned. Maybe that's the issue.

Surely admin can vibecode a threadban tool on Claude in an hour and re-open the thread! Pretty please!!!
they do I got a thread band and a warning for a comment I made about Charlie Kirk that was f out of line

If the thread was closed because "war is over, nothing more to discuss", then it should be reopened. Because with no deal and a blockade beginning tomorrow morning, the war is pretty much back on again.

I imagine it was mostly closed because it was becoming a ball ache to moderate.

If only it was locked sooner. So many fun posters banned due to ideological feuds.

Not really ideological fueds, but Evilore isn't keen on terrorist simping and plenty of people, after warnings, kept bringing up unrelated stuff like the "files" and such.

It became a wild wild west of political musings. A lot of slander getting tossed around too, which I feel like a lot of people don't realize can have serious ramifications for the owners / staff of websites. It isn't a problem until it is, and the best way to keep it at bay is to nip it completely.

I respect Evilore and staff and if the decision was made to lock it, I am confident it was a correct decision.

They should split it into two threads: "Won't SOMEONE think of the children!?!?!?" and "Splosion baters get in here!"

That's what GAF used to be to me. It was the public square to get "our take" on what was happening either in Gaming or in the world.

Oh I agree.Terrorist simping is really sad thing to see

That thread became little more than a desperate wishing thread for Trump to have some incurable dementia so he would go away

It was closed because people couldn't actually talk about the subject instead of how much they hated Trump

No lessons will be learned

I see that everywhere.
SMDH.

It was a good thread for aggregate information on the event. Not a big fan of the political shit slinging, but I saw the escalation in trivial bullshit politics gradually snowball.

I was actually impressed by the decorum of a good deal of posters in that thread and it proves we can still talk about these things in the future. Let time permit.

While the TDS was strong, the TGS(glazing syndrome) was also strong. The terrorist simping was the strongest. Although I'm sure that had a lot to do with TDS.

Politics are complicated. If they were simple, people would have figured it out a long time ago.

Are politics even a solvable problem? Or is it just the most impossible Would You Rather question ever conceived?

I have a lot to think about, don't mind me. Also I'm a swing voter.

I lurked on that thread some and it didn't seem like it was getting too out of hand to me. It just seems to me like they locked it for no reason at all.

They took almost one year to approve when I joined, but lock a thread at the drop of a hat.

That's what we Call the presidential curse, happens to every guy who takes presidential office. They get Gray hair and look very old. By the time they're out of office
This. One term is like a decade of stress. I remember obama late in his second term; came in young and spry then exited looking absolutely wrecked.

We used to have a whole politics sub-forum. I liked it - but it was a fucking mess.
I was a big fan of the former politics sub-forum. I disagree about it being a mess, though. It ended up being a huge aggregator of topics that I wasn't seeing on my regular online browsing. But it feels like it got killed off because around that time congress was talking about prosecuting social media pages/companies for political posts that turned into real life criminal activities. I don't blame killing it off due to that.

It was all the Jan 6th shit. Say what you want about it, but they had to shut it down. A gaming board such as this couldn't keep it up.

Is it ok if I ask what it was?

This forum has a strict "No Politics" rule and sometimes they will allow a thread like the Iran thread to talk about current events. But once it stopped being about Iran and became about how much certain people hated Trump, that was when it got locked

The TDS part got peeps to simp for terrorism. TGS is also a thing, but not really too much on this forum. Well that and MAGA and NATO got into a slap fight. I'm also responsible for that. lol
