Canada's First High Speed Rail Line

Canada's government, along with the HSR consortium Cadence, announced that Ottawa-Montréal will be the first phase of the upcoming High Speed Rail line. Construction is set to commence in 2029. Completed project should be from Toronto to Québec City.

Top speed is expected to be approximately 300km/h so linking the country's capital with a stop in Laval to Montréal, second largest city in Canada, in under an hour compared to 2 hours now.

Map is hilarious though as it gets so many things wrong.

When it says "first leg" is there talk of running it across Canada?

If so, why? The country is so fucking big, no one wants to travel across it that way, even high speed, that'd be about 32 hours trip time.

Getting more freight across Canada would be big. The country needs better infrastructure in connecting east and west so it can be less reliant on getting the US to do it by proxy (sell stuff to US on west coast, buy stuff from US on east coast).

Toronto to Québec City is the current plan. Ontario government asked to go to Windsor from Toronto.

Edmonton to Calgary should be included too as Western alienation is a real thing.

Edmonton to Calgary makes sense, two big cities, isolated even from each other. A straight line between them with no mountains or lakes to cross.

But throwing money on stuff like this means the budget will get soaked up by scams and result in nothing

The Toronto-based company that signed a memorandum of understanding with the province in 2020 to build and test a hyperloop from Edmonton to Calgary has announced it will be partnering with Canadian steel companies to advance the high-speed rail project test track.

There were talks about a hyperloop between Montréal and Toronto to but last time I read all hyperloop projects or testing stopped.

I'm shocked that Hyperloop can still be peddled in 2025. That Transpod company are still making claims of 1000km/h speeds.

Maybe they're an Agentic Hyperloop company and AI will fix all their issues, and build it, and make the coffee.

What is with the high speed rail push recently? It makes sense on paper, but will non-homeless people actually use these rail lines? I think rail travel is cool, but people have to actually choose to use it.

You guys are gonna see TRILLIONS of loonies disappear and about 3 feet of rail will be built.

Canada is one of the most corrupt and infiltrated countries in the world. It is basically owned by the Chinese and Indians and operated by sellout Laurentian elites. Everyday in Canada is humiliation ritual if you are old stock European Canadian. It is a dystopian shithole filled with tent cities and junkies.

Can't argue against that.

They'd be better off putting a second bridge to connect the eastern and western parts of Canada. (There's still only one bridge that literally divides the country in half right?)

I have a deep appreciation for the United States, if I was younger and not deeply entrenched in my career I would consider it. I am not be a fan of football but I am a fan of your rights and freedoms, plus I love cheeseburgers ;). I find many of my fellow countrymen to be statist and deeply insufferable when it comes to America. The only identity that Canadians currently have is hockey and the fact that they are "un-American". Sad state of affairs that our government would rather trade with the highly restrictive EU and China rather than the most powerful military and economic force on the planet, which also happens to be its neighbor to the south. Complete and utter stupidity. I also happen to love guns as well.
