(Canadian) Thanksgiving

Not me.

Monday off work, huge family dinner on Sunday. I'm going to be so full of good food that night.

Turkey, Ham, Scalloped/Mashed Potatoes, Corn, Stuffing, Apple Pie, Pumpkin Pie, Ice Cream, Wine, Bagged Milk, Monday off.

What's to hate?

What is wrong with you? 3 day weekend and good food. Loser.

It's not the holiday itself that I hate. It's the huge organizational clusterfuck involving families, and then actually dealing with family.

(Holidays are different when you're an adult.)

For the first time since the dawn of man I am not on call for a holiday..hockey season is beginning for my son and it is the first weekend I do not need to get up at 5am for tryouts (also hockey parents gathering on weekends for drinking)

This will be the best thanksgiving eva!!!

:P

Thanksgiving is great. Usually on my birthday weekend. Not this year though. But what's not to love about a 4 day weekend?

What do Canadians eat that day? (and don't say "food") lol

Edit:

Turkey, Ham, Scalloped/Mashed Potatoes, Corn, Stuffing, Apple Pie, Pumpkin Pie, Ice Cream, Wine, Bagged Milk, Monday off.

What's to hate?

I guess this pretty much answers my question

My family is Ethiopian/Muslim, so thanksgiving is still really new to me. I mean... I like turkey, so whatever. There are worse ways to spend my day off work.

Going up to the girlfriends cottage (it's a bit north of Kingston), gonna fish, have way too much alcohol and relax/read the whole time. I ain't mad at it.

Looking forward to it!

Saturday, Turkey Dinner with the In-Laws.
Sunday, Ham Dinner with my family at my home.
Monday, Something Delicious for dinner with my extended family.

This is a weekend that should have me browsing the p90x thread shortly afterwards.
:)

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Lots of people back in town, so beer, nachos and poker tomorrow night. Hopefully install the new front door Saturday, Sunday is massive dinner with the family, and Monday I get to relax and watch my Riders beat the shit out of the Argos....

So nope, definitely don't hate it.

Every long weekend is good regardless of what happens, but on top of that I will eat amazing burgers, turkey, etc.

Also, last long weekend of the year so just enjoy it.

I got my seal-whacker all polished up for this year. Just have to prepare the giant pudding.

I usually work Thanksgiving. There's always a hockey that afternoon here. This year their isn't so I get it off for the first time in years.

I didn't even realize it was this weekend. Turkey, pumpkin pie and an extra day of sleeping and gaming! Thanksgiving is awesome. I could see the hate if I had to organize a big get together though.

Does TDSB count as the government?!
The school board? No, that wouldn't count... and I'm 99% sure that no school boards would get Rememberance Day off since I recall having an assembly for it each year.

However, since this thread is about Thanksgiving and not Rememberance day... Thanksgiving is awesome, even as an adult (contrary to what the OP thinks). We are hosting it at our house this year but my father-in-law will still be cooking the turkey which means the biggest job I will have is not getting drunk enough to the point where I can't watch the kids.

It sounds like you hate your family, not thanksgiving.

Personally, my family doesn't really do anything besides eat a slightly different supper on thanksgiving, and maybe invite over a relative or two.

I love thanksgiving!

Unfortunately I have a huge exam next Friday, so I need to study hard. But i'll enjoy some good food and good company. :D

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Saturday is usually with just my parents and brothers and is some family loved meal like steak and baked potatoes or chinese.

Sunday is the big family dinner with turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes, etc.

Monday usually is a leftover lunch combining food from those two meals and the meals others in the family had on Saturday.

I'm hopefully taking Tuesday off for an extra long weekend! Hells yes. Have to go back home for a family dinner on Sunday though.

I am an adult. I guess you can always sit in the corner playing videogames on your phone or handheld like some anti-social teenager and ignore your family.

Made it last year but made a graham cracker crust instead, tweaked it a bit to add some white chocolate to make it more to my liking but I can't find my copy of the recipe where I wrote what I did. Friends coming over for dinner this weekend have demanded I make it again.
