Cannibal Holocaust - now on DVD

For all you sick fucks out there, Cannibal Holocaust is coming out on DVD on October 25. If you've never seen it, basically it's "found" footage of 4 documentary filmmakers and their absolutely horrible and brutal demise in South America. If that kinda sounds like The Blair Witch Project it's because this is the film that inspired Blair Witch. It's one of the most disturbing and notorious horror films ever made banned in god only knows how many countries.

Finally, a snuff film you can buy at Amazon.com.

Er yeah, outside of discussion, I'm never going to watch this. I just can't do it, just reading about it disturbs me. Got to save my fragile mind and all that jazz.

I've never seen the film either, but I have seen some short clips of it from some page on the net. None of it seemed particularly disturbing (part of it was the infamous "woman on the pole" scene), but I'm sure it's probably alot more visceral if you're actually watching it.

I've always wanted to see this one ( I luv horror ), one thing troubles me though, I heard there was a scene in it where a turtle gets cut open and people play with it's intestins, thing is, that turtle was real, that's what I've been told

Yeah, the animal killings in the movie were actually authentic, and caused the film to be banned in Italy (where it was created) initially.

Fake recreations of human killings don't bother me at all, I love horror movies, but the real killings and torturing of animals is vile, reprehensible, filth. No one should support that kind of sick shit.

Cannibal Ferox is better if you want to get animal cruelty kicks. Pig getting blown apart by shotguns. I think that's Ferox, anyway.

isn't there a worse movie than this? i think it was salo or something?

Pier Paolo Pasolini was actually a good director, for the most part. Salo has its reputation, but that reputation is vectored mainly by folks that have never seen it. It's a sadistic and vile movie, but most of the oft-cited money shots - i.e. the coprophagy, is very obviously fake.

It's funny, I've got this movie on VHS and I've never watched it.

I borrowed Salo from a friend at one point, and the movie was bad. Not OMGWTF bad, but more like "why would you film something so idiotic" bad. It's not a good movie, and it didn't shock me at all. I ended up rolling my eyes at it repeatedly by the end of the film.

I am starting to think that the White Man must be the most degenerated member posting here.

Do you know something about Buttergeit's work? If yes, I'll concede you the medal.

Buttgereit? I've only seen the Nekromantik movies, but I found them both to be amusing. I think the sequel is almost as good as the first.

As far as Salo goes, no, it's not a good movie. I meant to mention that above. Pier Paolo Pasolini is, however, a mostly good director, and Salo isn't really a strong representation of his other films.

yeah i've never seen it, going by what i've read about it. heh, so i guess it's not all its cracked up to be eh?

on the other hand, pink flamingos shocked and disturbed the hell out of me, so i would probably be disturbed by both cannibal holocaust and salo.

Well, I find Pink Flamingos to be one of the most distrubing things I've ever seen.

"Do mah balls, Ma!"

Salo is also tame compared to the book its based on, although I've only ever read brief snippets of it. Not exactly the kind of book you'd like to be seen with in public.

Egads. You win the pize, White Man. A strong stomach is required to see both Nekromantik movies, but enjoying them? Damn, you are going stright to hell at light speed as soon as you die, pal. No interview with St. Peter for you.

Oh, and check out Schramm.

Isnt there's an ultrabit release of that movie? I remember it on a store shelf with some 'high resolution' special type transfer months, if not like a year or two ago

Its already on DVD, but I guess this new one has extras. The original release is pretty bare bones.

But on it were stills from a scene involving piranhas (I guess the footage itself is lost). But just seeing two images of poor quality, set to creepy music was enough to scare the fucking shit out of me.

I saw Pink Flamingos on TV a few weeks back. That's right, on TV. As far as I could tell, it was completely unedited. Well, assuming there wasn't anything worse than Divine blowing a guy and then eating dogshit.

No way! Where do you live? Was there a scene involving a chicken?

In the midwest. It was on Starz (or Encore) so it's not like it was on a broadcast channel or anything but I still found it quite surprising. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not really SOP for hardcore sex to be shown on television even on a pay cable channel.

Two chickens in fact. And blood. And screaming. Lots of screaming.

John Waters is my hero.

One of mine, too. I especially like Female Trouble and Desperate Living. I love the horrible, horrible acting. I can't fathom how many drugs they were taking when Waters made his 70s films.

Thats actually what I thought myself. Cannibal Holocaust to me was much more gruesome. But I do like the story of what happened to the director after the movie was finished.

For some reason I've never been introduced into this genre (subset?) of films. I want in now! Where do I start with the disturbing stuff?

Which director? Pier Paolo Pasolini, who was murdered and repeatedly run over by a car driven by one of his ex-boyfriends a month following Salo's release; or the director of Cannibal Holocaust, who was taken to court to prove that he didn't murder anyone while making the film?

On a sidenote, the broadcast of Pink Flamingos that I watched also featured some bonus items. In addition to an interview with Waters and some added footage from the movie, they also showed some clips of moviegoers leaving the theatre after a screening of the film. Nearly everyone they talked to found it hilarious and were talking about how it was the funniest movie they'd ever seen. Personally, I found it funny as well but I tend to have somewhat dark tastes. The fact that the average moviegoer of the time shared my opinion is just mindblowing. Man, the 70s were such a great decade for film.

As a hardcore horror lover, I couldn't agree more.
