Capcom Am Cry: Jack Thompson Targets Killer 7 (AO rating)

Someone stop him before he tries to get Dr. Mario banned because your killing bacteria.

What is there in Killer 7 that's equivalent to an NC-17 movie? I think it would all fly with an "R" rating.

It seems Matt C. (the reviewer of IGN_Cube who reviewed Killer 7) made this statement:

"[this game contains a] fully blown sex sequence."

And that's what triggered Jack Thompson. He's emailed the president of the ESRB, ESA, Hilary Clinton, Joseph Libierman and a few other government officials.

He also threatened the ESRB, saying if they don't make Killer 7 AO than the ESRB will be "destoryed"

GAFers, I ask you--how safe are you...from JACK THOMPNSON. DUN DUN DUNNNNN!!

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if the game industry banded together, hired a stealth assasin and killed Thomposon's ass...he's causing so much shit, even Hilary must be like "Damn, chillax!"

...and what's scary is that I'm only half-joking... >.>

I know that there's a scene where a woman has sex with guy in a wheelchair, but there's no nudity or anything...

Kill the ESRB? Then what? All games are released wihtout ratings? Brillant, Jacko.

No, I think the idea is that he proves the industry can't self-regulate & then games need to seek government approval. This is a bad scenario, because when the government has to give games ratings, the government has the ability to ban games.

Canada has a movie ratings system that's run by the government, for example, and there have been movies that have been effectively banned because the government refused to award a rating....

Hilarious.

I guess the moral of all of this is that everyone suffers when IGN reviews are actually read. Oh, and that all Americans suffer from implied, cel-shaded sexual content.
the article said:
Major retailers including Wal-Mart do not sell AO-rated games, which would mean that such a rating might have an adverse impact on sales of Killer 7.
l.o.l.

C- : it is showing up fine

crap now i'm gonna have to buy it beofre the ao. i am having a shitty time finding damn gta:sa.

Yes, but then can't you just post, then look at your own post and tell?

Jack Thompson is after one thing: fame. This is his career, and he's having a ball being a rude jackass and getting famous for it.

Can you recall any movies Canada's banned in particular ... I can't. Generally, our movies have lower ratings than the States, but that might be innacurate - just a quick observation. I would like to know what I've been missing out on.

That, for one, though I think that process might have been appealed & the movie might have eventually come out like a year or two later...

I can't wait until a couple videogame journalists break "ThomsponGate," showing game publishers paid him in exchange for his usual douchebaggery so they'd receive publicity.

Weird, I'll have to check out the circumstances surrouding its ban (never heard about it myself). BTW, I don't support government involvement in things of this nature; I was just curious how much of an impact their involvement really does have.

He'll probably try to put a "M" to Twilight Princess

But seriously, the game features sex so what?! What, is that a new concept to the guy? Killer 7 is already M rated which means 17 yo or up can buy the game no less than that, if he's trying to prevent 17 yo people from thinking about sex or even having it good luck....

also, looks like i wont be able to wait for a $20 price drop now. dammit Thompson!

I thought you already had it?

Oh, that's right you rented it didn't you? I just remember you posting at the official thread quite a lot, not as much as Toy Machine...but then again nobody likes Killer 7 more than Toy Machine. :lol

I'm suprised God of War isn't targetted, it's more "risque" in the "sex" department than Killer 7 is...meh, I'll email Thompson tonight and tell him about it.

3 days later IGN'll post up a article saying "Kratos attacked by Thompson!!!"

That is lame. There is nothing explicit in that scene in Killer 7. No body parts, just motion.

it's not even like the hot coffee mod. its a non-interactive cutscene

you n-fans better be serious about this one, killer 7 brings a wack ass story and now someone wants to censor it!

In the worse case scenario, I'll just import from either Europe or Japan. So it will only be a minor inconvience.

I think that same movie ended up being censored in England...

Is Jack Thompson frightened by his penis at night? Does it growl at him?

Seriously, does he understand the whole concept of M = R = For adults, with the OPTION to allow their wards to view/play if they deem the content acceptable enough. If the stores are doing their jobs (most are now enforcing the M rating just like R ratings), which the last few checks say they are, then it's the parents not watching what they're buying for little Billy, and NOT BEING TIPPED OFF BY THE NAME "KILLER 7."

Sex happens. It most likely happened to conceive him, unless he thinks the stork dropped him off. People in wheelchairs are allowed to have it too. The graphic depiction of such is agreed upon in this society as to be kept away from minors, but this is neither graphic nor for minors. Plus, it is mind-blowing that his whole thing is about the sex, ignoring the easy violence targets in these games, as well as games like Manhunt. But I bet he'll get that bright idea soon, too.

While I am glad that this might improve sales, it also means it might become harder to find, and won't become cheap quickly. But he is also just starting to point out any game ever, pretty soon he'll outcry Melee for Peach bloomers (and secret hidden code to remove Peach's and Zelda's skirts, it's true, taunt in debug mode... it was probably done to check leg animation, but couple that with a hidden Coffee Shop test area, and I'd say that's a little "Hot"... wouldn't you?)

There is no "law" saying you can't sell a M rated game to anyone under 17. That is to say if a clerk sells a 15 yr. old Metal Gear Solid 3, he isn't going to be arrested or fined. Of course, Illonois is attempting to do just that, but I'm pretty sure it'll be shot down at the supreme court like many others cases that proceeded it.

The age-restriction thing is just "suggestive" at this point. However, many stores (Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart) have strict store policy which make it difficult for anyone under 17 to purchase a rated M game.

But ofcourse, with consideration of all the online stores, gamestops (not all of the clerks check for I.D) etc. you'll find that it's not going to be too difficult for a typical 15 yr. old to obtain a rated M game. Which to me--is fine. Next to all rated M games don't seem to bad, of course, GTA is on the extreme end, but something like DMC, RE4, or MGS--I don't have a problem with 14/15 yr. olds playing those games at all.

If he starts messing with Gamecube games he is going to get the shit kicked out of him by Reggie. This will be awesome :lol

Yeah, according to the first result from a google search on Canada's decision to ban it (repealed 2 years later), it's a sex-heavy movie involving minors:

"Fat Girl, a film banned last year by the Ontario Film Review Board because of a lengthy sex scene between a 15-year-old girl and an adult man, was approved for release on 3 January in a decision that the censors presented as signalling its newly progressive policies."

http://www.indexonline.org/en/indexindex/articles/2003/1/film-ban-lifted-in-ontario.shtml

Wasn't rated in the US.

Dear Mr. Thompson,

I noted that you are asking that the game Killer 7 be re-rated by the ESRB. I have recently played an M rated game, God of War on the Playstation 2, that featured a sex scene with actual nudity at the end of the first level. Like Grand Theft Auto, you could press buttons to make a woman orgasm. It's more explicit than either Grand Theft Auto or Killer 7.

Certainly this should be re-rated if other, less explicit games are being re-rated.

Thanks,
A Concerned Citizen

Yeah, it's a very explicit movie, but it's very good. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes intellectual underage nudity!

It just dawned on me that he must play atleast some part of these games to find out how "bad" they are.....

...HE'S PART OF THE PROBLEM!!!

By this way, this spiel I made on the M rating/sales system is accurate. Last I checked that's how the "flora and fauna" of retail worked.

There is no "law" saying you can't sell a M rated game to anyone under 17. That is to say if a clerk sells a 15 yr. old Metal Gear Solid 3, he isn't going to be arrested or fined. Shouldn't you have signed it, "A childish twat".

I'd expect that nonsense from C- Warrior, but really it's like the Nintendo fans cheering the Hot Coffee thing without realising that it could have wider and more far-reaching consequence, that their juvenile brains can't comprehend.

I am getting slightly annoyed that the industry isn't getting together to do something about this and nip it in the blood, rather than just waiting for each new case to come up and then throw their hands up and go "oh it wasn't us".
