Capcom Fighting Evolution (Xbox)- Downloadable Content!

Lyte Edge

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
Nothing is mentioned on the back of the box, but this is from the game manual:

Downloadable Capcom Fighting Evolution Content

If you are an Xbox Live subscriber, you can also download the very latest content (such as new characters, moves, stages, and more) to your Xbox console. Plus, only in Xbox Live are Pyron and Shin Akuma available from the start!

Very interesting; looks like Team Xbox was right. I just hope that this isn't just Capcom saying "you can download the two boss characters and their stages right away!!" or something lame like that. Some "new" (as in more sprites ripped from other games) characters would really help this game out.

EDIT: Unfortunately, it's highly unlikely Capcom will ever do anything with downloadable content.

It seems like if they really where going to add new characters and stages they'd instead do an entirely new game, like CFE Pro or something. It just doesn't seem very much like Capcom to have real downloadable content. It's probably just Pyron or nothing at all.

The thing about that is that it really wouldn't make any sense for them to mention NEW characters, stages, moves, etc. and then list Pyron and Shin Akuma right after that. The added characters could also already be on the disc and you just download a save to unlock them.

But I agree; why not add the characters before the game comes out and make that the selling point of the Xbox version?

But has capcom ever really made any sense on the xbox?

By the time the first (and only!) stage is available for download.....which would be like, 6 months down the road at best....would anyone still farking care about this game?

Oh wait....nobody cares about this game right now anyway.

Capcom, you lose.

Two more characters per game (say, Blanka/Vega, Makoto/Dudley, Tessa/Tao, Adon/Birdie, Hsien-Ko/Donovan) would go a long way towards making this game actually interesting and worth playing. But that WON'T happen with an Xbox Live download.

Or maybe they were making a sequel, canned it and are now releasing whatever they had finished. Maybe.

And CFE _is_ a freaking good game, basically, it's just extremely lacking in characters. CFE with twice as many characters would be just as good as CvS2. Who cares about "new sprites" anyway, really? It's not like the new sprites look any better.

Because if everyone had a new sprite it'd be something new to look at and they'd finally all match. Right now it's just a collection of sprites from different games with totally different art styles. It looks like they just cut and paste them in. It doesn't help that the backgrounds look like strange paintings and don't match any of the character graphics.

Yeah, I finally got to try this.

It's bland, no doubt, but it certainly doesn't seem like a bad game. People were making this game sound like it was SNK vs. Capcom or something. I can understand hating Capcom's laziness, though.

Oh, and I could swear that SF Anniversary had the same exact blurb about downloadable content in the manual.

Who cares about "new sprites" anyway, really? It's not like the new sprites look any better.

Aside from the reasons listed in the above post (consistency), there's no real reason for every Capcom fighting game to look the same as a prior one.

It's by Capcom.

Someone on Shoryuken.com said that the exact same downloadable content statement is also in Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. Can someone check and see? If it is, this is all bullshit and we aren't getting squat from them. :/

Can this be played online?

Yes. Initial statements are that Capcom did a great job with the netcode and matches go much more smoothly than CvS2 and SF AC. I haven't tried it online yet so I'm not sure.

If it runs smoother than SFAC, then I'm sold. SFAC runs really nicely for me.

I just played some matches and had some TERRIBLE lag, so that's out. I also notice there's no download option, so unless Capcom just makes new characters a required update, I smell PR bullshit.

I have a hard time beliving this. But we'll see.

Perhaps I need to get this and school Lyte a bit. HERE COMES GIEFY

For the record, Capcom actually did redraw Demitri. At first I thought they just vertically stretched his sprite, added a pixel on his mouth, and changed his palette to resemble his SvC palette, but a friend of mine who was ripping sprites from the PS2 version showed me a clean version of the Demitri sprite unstretched, which I compared with his VS sprite and they really did redraw him. He's taller, his mouth his drawn differently and his hair is also more like SvC. We were suprised to say the least.

Read above. :P It's definitely in there. I remember a mental read flag going up at "new characters and stages".

I just looked at the SF manual. Not the exact same statement, but it's close. It's on page 2.

"You can also download items such as new characters, moves, stages and more to your Xbox console"

So, yeah, that's BS.

*sigh*

Oh well, typical Capcom...gets your hopes up for nothing. WHAT WILL BE WRONG WITH CAPCOM CLASSICS CAN'T WAIT TO SEE!!

Mox, there's no way they redrew Demitri...that sprite is all stretched out. Or at least, all his animations are old and don't fit the "new sprite." It looks so terrible when he starts walking and his legs change size. He's the 2D wall guy.
