Capcom putting Darkstalkers Collection on a proper Sony console, yay!

Still no need for a PSP!

From our pals at The Magicbox:

- Capcom announced they will release Vampire DarkStalkers Collection for PlayStation 2 in Japan on May 19. A compilation of the 5 arcade classics, including: Vampire: The Night Warriors, Vampire Hunter: DarkStalkers Revenge, Vampire Savior: The Lord of Vampire, Vampire Hunter 2: DarkStalkers Revenge and Vampire Savior 2: The Lord of Vampire. Each game will Arcade, Versus and Training and Gallery Modes.

I didn't see this posted. I did a search, but I'm certain any minute I'll get the "WELCOME TO. . ." smackdown.

Either way, this is good news as I refuse to pick my nose with Victor with anything less than an arcade stick.

I thought there were only two or three games in the series. Are some of these just tweaked versions, like the gazillion SFII games?

This is news to me. Although I'd like to hear it from someplace other than Magicbox - their reliability isn't the highest, if you know what I mean.

Still, if true, I'll preorder first chance I get.

I've had enough SF2 over the past decade. I'd like a full Street Fighter 3 collection please.

If only because 2ND Impact had some sweet backgrounds.

There was also news of the Japanese PS2 release of Mark of the Wolves at Magicbox. Online play and a bundle with the SNK Joystick.

I hope MotW makes it here with on-line play intact; or it's - FIRE MISSION, OVER! for SNK's Jersey offices. >:|

I'd assume this is a port of Vampire Chronicle for Matching Service for DC, because i see no mention of the "Chaos Tower" mode from the PSP version.

No way is MOTW coming to PS2 over here with online play. But I wouldn't rule out an Xbox version...

...sometime next year if we're lucky. :P They still haven't even released KOF *2002* on Xbox yet!

Garou and Last Blade 1 and 2 had better be getting the KOF 2003 PS2 treatment if they want me to buy these games again.

Actually, it doesn't look like it, which is too bad, since Vampire Chronicle is the best Vampire game in the series, bringing together all the various game play/move tweaks and characters from all the Vampire titles into one game.

This isn't really needed; just port Vampire Chronicle: Chaos Tower to the PS2, and add in the backgrounds from the Vampire/Hunter games, and everything will be in the game.

Or better yet: MAKE A NEW GAME. But who am I kiding? :/

Vampire Chronicle isn't a compilation of all the arcade games. This is an often misunderstood fact. Vampire Chronicle is mostly Vampire Savior with all the characters and quirks from the other games added in. This looks to be a compilation of all 5 arcade games if Magic Box is to be trusted, so it's definitely not Vampire Chronicle.

Vampire Chronicle was somewhat like a Hyper SF2. I'd rather have each game for separate in the same disc, that way we get all the stages, and all the music.

Again, the ONLY thing missing from Vampire Chronicle is the backgrounds from Vampire/Hunter. All of the music is already intact. Pick Vampire play style, get Vampire/Darkstalkers music. Pick Hunter play style, get Hunter/Nightwarriors music. Etc.

That douche Ben Herman was making noise about PS2 games retaining on-line play in localization. I'm holding him to that.

If not, that's money SNK won't be getting. At least until the games go on clearance. :X

The KDDI service is being extended to America and suppossedly all SNKP's PS2 games will use that. I'd expect some sort of subscription fee being invloved though. I also doubt SCEA approves any of the old NeoGeo ports even with online play.... maybe if they come in bundles but I'm not sure of that even. Best option is to hope Garou, Last Blade 1-2, KOF '95-99 and Twinkle Star Sprites get Xbox ports, then they'll come here for sure (like KOF '94RB).

Oh and there's no doubt Vampire/DarkStalkers Collection gets a Live enabled Xbox port too imo. It'll come 6 months later but it's bound to happen, MGSJ is actively pursuing these sorts of games.

Cue bitching about the Morrigan sprite.
I'd rather bitch about the 98% chance that the entire game(s) will be interlaced, actually. If they weren't, and ran in their original low-res modes, Morrigan would probably look okay! Lacking in frames, yes, but not the chunky mess she is in all recent, interlaced games.

Sigh and such.

TTOB: Not much need for a SF3 collection, cuz the first two are pretty much arcade-perfect on Dreamcast, and outside of graphics Third Strike is arcade-perfect on PS2 / Xbox.

wow, the same week as when i preordered Chron for PSP

bah, it doesnt sound the same anyway, sounds like a compilation...

guess that means you won't have every character selectable versus everyone else in one versus mode...

Chronicle >>> Compilation. Now if they included Chroncile AND all the other games, we'd be good to go.

This implies I own a Dreamcast.

No deal.

I want the SF3 games on my PS2 so I can use my arcade stick, and have people to play against.

I've got no intention of buying an obsolete console, then building an arcade stick for it. Capcom however, has no qualms about porting anything and everything in their back catalogue. ^_^

Beat me to it!

It's really too bad CPS2 used a weird not-easily-NTSC-compatible resolution, because if it hadn't then Capcom would (hopefully) have had no excuse to be lazy about modern CPS2 console ports.

All of you guys just need get your Xbox systems modded and put all the Neo-Geo and CPS2 games on it. Arcade perfection, no BS, and games that will never see the light of day on consoles again (D&D, Aliens Vs. Predator, etc.) are all playable on your TV.

In this case, it wouldn't help the problem we're griping about, because all of the Xbox emulators stretch, filter, and interlace all of those games just like what's done in Capcom's ports. I don't think the Xbox is even capable of the noninterlaced low resolution that old consoles output. PS2, however, is.

You're gonna have to swap that stick for another format eventually, unless you wire it for external PCBs. Then you could build a DC PCB box with the Agetec PCB in about five minutes, pick up a DC on the cheap, and eat your cake too!

You can apply screen filters to give the games an arcade screen look, too. :) But the thing about playing these games emulated is that you get the real deal. Nothing is changed or different from the arcade versions, plus money is saved on not having to buy rehashed collections of games over and over again, thus freeing up money to buy "new" rehashes like Capcom Fighting Evolution YEAH!! :/

...Or just buy a PS2 -> DC controller adaptor and use his stick on the DC. But I don't blame him for not wanting to bother with another system just to get one or two games.

With SF3, I want to see something similar to Vampire Chronicle. Make it SF3: Third Strike, but each character can have a New Generation, 2nd Impact, or 3rd Strike version/move set (newer characters get some tweaks/changed moves for the older games; VC also does this). Include all the music and throw in the backgrounds as well.

I'd say that the "problem" is SF Anniversary already released, but hey, this is CAPCOM we're talking about here. If anything, release it for the PSP.

Bought...assuming it comes to the US. I always wanted to get this on Dreamcast but didn't want to pay the high amounts of money for the import.

If SCEA shoots this down I will kill everyone. Even Bob. And that guy that does the stuff. I fucking mean it.

I FUCKING MEAN IT, SCEA

EDIT: Lyte, not everything is in Chronicle. For example, you'll get Talbain's shitty VS voice and not his far superior DS1/NW voice no matter which version of him you choose. And animation doesn't change as well, like Bishamon's stance not reverting to the DS1/NW version when choosing the appropriate mode.

And by "high" you mean the $5-10 cost over the price of normal games...

I want the Sony thumbscrews put to Capcom and another $29.99, or lower, release.

It seems Sony is content with Crapcom peddling their tired wares at that price. Which is okay by me in the event it's something I'm vaguely interested in. Such as this.

Time to unload the Saturn versions! Wooooooooooo!

even with having a modded xbox, i would still like a collection, mainly for online play, (you can only hope)

the idea of a collection with the seperate games sounds good, 2005 would be the perfect time for a Street Fighter Alpha 10th Anniversaty Collection....

Tsubaki said:

Thats right because I don't spend any more than $20-25 on a game. Not worth paying $50-60 for an import or a domestic title for that matter.

Sorry for:
- possibly posting old news (did a search couldn't find mention of this)
- bumping dusty old thread (member jr.)

Anyway, does this article actually read that there will be 8 versions of Darkstalkers (5 arcade releases, 3 custom arrangements) and that there will be a new character in the Darkstalkers Collection for PS2?

New?

That shadow sort of looks like Donovan, but not really. Though, if it is a new character it would look TOO much like Donovan for it to be very exciting.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! do you have a link to the announcement??? us too or only japan???

Welcome to last year. Garou, Last Blade 1+2, KoF95-97, KoF98-2000 and Twinkle Star Sprites were announced along with KoF94 Rebout some time last fall IIRC. Rebout is already out, the rest will all release in Japan this year.

Hey, thanks for the link!

It looks like the 3 arranged modes are unlockables, according to the article.
But that's just reading it in mangled Engrish.

There's an offical page, now.

On sale in Japan May 19th.

Awesome, maybe they can get off their asses and make new one after this Or at least given me action/rpg hybrid ala castlevania like soon!

Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection. Interesting. They've never used "Darkstalkers" in a JP title before, AFAIK at least.

Yeah, they haven't. It was Vampire, Vampire Hunter, Vampire Savior, Vampire Savior 2, Vampire Hunter 2. My guess is it was originally changed for the US to make it stand out more (Vampire sounds kinda generic when you think about it, probably the same reasoning behind Dracula > Castlevania)

If there's custom arrangements, that probably means we'll get a version similar to the console Vampire Savior (PSX/Saturn) where it has all the characters.

EDIT: actually, it looks like i'm wrong; looking at the VH/VH2 logos, it seems Darkstalkers was used in the subtitle.

There were rumours of a new PS2 Vampire Savior game in the works...Probably they were refering to this...but wouldn't rock if they released some kind of sequel after this ?
