Capcom recently hosted its 46th Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders, and the Q&A session was chronicled.

One set of questions regarded Mega Man, which, besides ports and collections, has not seen any real new action in the form of new games for quite some time, with Mega Man 11 from 2018 being the last major release.

One shareholder inquired about plans for the Mega Man series, to which Capcom responded that they are considering ways to develop the IP further, as it's one of their most important franchises. However, no additional information can be shared.

This reply is not dissimilar from a comment made in 2023, where Capcom stated that they were "considering how to approach the production of new entries in the series."

Capcom also confirmed that merchandise sales are highly sought after in overseas markets, with plans to grow this facet further.
Q. Please tell me about your plans for the Mega Man series.

A. The Mega Man series is one of our most important IPs, and we are continuously considering ways to develop it further. However, we do not have any additional information we can share at this time.
Q. What are your expectations regarding revenue contributions of merchandise sales from the Mega Man series?

A. While we do not disclose individual sales figures by IP, we receive a particularly high volume of inquiries about the Mega Man series from overseas markets. We will continue to focus on expanding this business further.

Don't care for Mega Man, but Pragmata does kind of give me some pseudo-Mega Man universe vibes looking at it in a weird reflection, and I am looking forward to that. I'd play that than what traditional Mega Man games are.

We are going to get a new Mega Man X game and likely a new take on Mega Man (like Legends was a new take back during the 32/64 bit era) as well. It will happen.

When I think of Capcom, Mega Man is the first franchise that comes to mind. Dare I say MM was the mascot for Capcom in the early days, like Sonic is to Sega and Mario is to Nintendo respectively.

I hope he the franchise returns to it's roots and revives the Legends series. Those were fun times.

I love the enthusiasm man, but I've stopped believing. At this point I've just come to rely on the community for great MMX games, as Capcom doesn't seem to give any shits about MMX whatsoever. Calling it here, if a new game is made, it'll be classic MegaMan, (completely inferior to MMX in every regard but people prefer it over X for reasons I'll never understand), again. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for any new entry, but I thoroughly believe MMX is dead, and that sucks to say as it's my favorite game series of all time.

MM11 was pretty great.

I love Mega Man but he did suffer from over-exposure for a while there. I'd be happy with one really good MM game per gen (with optional challenges like MM11 for longevity). Which means we're hopefully due for one soon.

I'm surprised they haven't released MML1+2+Tron Bonne yet, considering they did the other games and MMBN
I don't preorder games or buy them at release as I'm not a chump and I know I'll just get a better product for cheaper if I wait a month or so, but anything Capcom releases that's MegaMan related, with the exception of the Battle Network stuff as I'm not a fan of those titles at all, I immediately buy on every platform to show Capcom that there's still money in this IP, and this would be no different. I just can't for the life of me figure out why they wouldn't have grabbed the easy money and released the Legends trilogy with some optional visual updates and perhaps a more modern control scheme, I mean what are we talkin about here!

Megaman legends seems primed for current market trends if done right.

Do a megaman legends remake if you want to play it more safe.

Maybe do some crazy shit like Pac-Man with shadow of the labyrinth.

We really don't need just another standard 2D megaman though.

Yeah, right.

Megaman kinda died when Capcom dragged him into shit animu territory in the PS1 days. The classic series will always be where it's at. 11 solid games, with only 7 being subpar and 8 being mid. They could go back releasing one every year and I'd happily buy and play them, because the gameplay loop was among the most accomplished in the genre. 11 was a fantastic game, and it woulda been perfect if only the soundtrack was on the same level as the classics.

Honestly, a AAA Mega Man game would get my attention bigly.

Nintendo kinda pulled it off with Dread despite everything, why not Capcom?

Pragmata is essentially going to be a Megaman game or close to it.

I'll stick to being excited for Abyss X Zero(Unsighted devs) in I believe 2028 maybe? Metroidvania with a MML low poly artstyle with 3D Zelda Dungeons and mechanics like the Hookshot or Spinner. Dunno why Capcom have never done this themselves.

Games like Megaman ZX were pseudo Metroidvanias already. Missed opportunity IMO.

So once again....Indies will provide.

Edit: ya know what was a really depressing moment for me? It was around the battle network collection went out, and I was looking for a copy of it at game stores...and the guys there were talking like "we don't get a lot of copies of games from niche franchises like that"....

Niche...franchises...mega man....mother fucker, I feel like at one time Mega Man was as synonymous with video games as Mario was, at least during the NES and SNES period.

I think its hiatus is because they just don't know what to with it. But why not atleast make the old games accessible today. Remasters of the old games optimized for today's displays.

Throw in Command Mission too. Excellent collection. I'm bummed because my PS2 copy wouldn't progress past a certain point. Game didn't look scratched at all, but I never got to finish it 🥲

I know people might scoff at this idea, but when I saw Pragmata, I thought it'd be cool if that was a secret Mega Man reboot or something. Have it be revealed the girl's creator is Dr. Light or something, and she's actually Roll.

There really is so much that can be done, but people are afraid of change.

Just give Inti Creates another chance. Or thomasmahler thomasmahler
Yeah, Mighty Gunvolt Burst (or Gal Gunvolt burst if you played it on PS4) is a good Mega Man clone. It's way better than Mighty No 9 was.
