Car help -> damaged my front bumper

Hi Gaf,

I damaged my front bumper on my Audi A3. I already bulged/flattened it again and can hopefully paint it over so I don't pay 1000€ for a new bumper.
Anyways, one plastic-component behind the bumper was severly damaged and is broken, but I don't know what it is. It seems like an empty plastic-case.
Do any of you know what it is? The thing in the red circle, ignore the other stuff, could not find a better picture:

I'm not an A3 expert by any means, but I know that's where they used to put the intercooler for MK IV GTI's. Maybe its some kind of splash guard?

I cant seem to find a proper parts list, but I think you can just bring it to any dealer or garage and ask to order a replacement.

That is likely an Air Cleaner Resonator. Wont be too expensive, just go into the dealership and ask for a replacement part.

There are car repair manuals available for your specific car sometimes. https://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_n...ls+audi&rh=n:929316,k:car+repair+manuals+audi

Definitely air system related. Make sure you check the wheel alignment and have a shop check the frame. Minor looking damage on a bumper cover can be more underneath. I get the diy thing, it saves a lot of money, but realize the limits of it.

Edit: There are other options besides a brand new, oem bumper cover. Used bumper cover, after market brand. These can be more practical on an older car. Unless you have auto finish experience I wouldn't expect your results painting it to be much. Material cost will sink that as a diy. Better to take it to a wholesale shop or maaco if you want to keep costs down.

I'd be more concerned that the structural integrity of the big silver crash bar has been compromised. That crease is bad news. If you hit anything again the odds of it failing are much higher now. That is the actual piece that protects the radiator, not the bumper.

I have estimating software here. If you were comfy PM'ng me the VIN # I could get you the part # and description. Looks like an air box

I don't think that's a picture of OP's car

The picture is not my car, just one I found on the internet. I am pretty sure the damage is just cosmetical + the part I am asking about.
I think the "air box" guesses in here are pretty accurate, there is some sort of tube going through it. The tube has a hole on the spot where the box should be.

I just drove the car, no problems. The "crash" was also at relative low speed while parking, so it probably just dented the plastic and the air box broke.

Yeah, that creased bumper is a hazard. The bumper cover is cosmetic, but that bumper is a pretty big structural defect. It saves some money for now, but hopefully it doesn't cost a life later.

Edit: oh good, that's not OP's actual car.

Judging by the location of the air cleaner box I would guess it has something to do the air intake. A splash guard or something. Definitely not a safety concern.
