will raising the motor on startup cause problems? i just got some flowmasters and it sound good when you raise the motor. my dad said it would cause problems to the motor if i raise it on startup. i never heard of those problems before. anybody know?

Do you mean "race" the engine after startup? Keep in mind that with a cold engine, all of the lubricating oil is in the pan at the bottom of the engine. When you start up, things aren't lubricated that much, until the oil gets pumped up and begins to flow through the engine. So if you're racing the engine or running it hard before it warms up a bit, you're probably putting excessive wear on the engine which can ultimately shorten its life somewhat.

if you cant spell "race" i dont think you should be doing it. keep it on the track and dont hit little timmy on his bike.

If you are just racing it to sound 'good' to the neighbours, then thats pretty dumb IMO. It'll still sound nice after the engines warmed up, it'll probably be tuned to a certain rev band.

So warm it up for 10 minutes or so of normal driving before you let loose. Driving through a tunnel with your windows down is always a good way to hear your car sing :)

AFAIK, the problem comes from the "cold" metal in the engine. When you just start things up, believe it or not, but the seals aren't perfect. When the engine heats up, not only does more of the oil lubricate the parts, but everything seals up better as well due to thermal expansion of the gaskets and stuff. That said, I don't think it makes a huge difference these days. It was an issue in the past, but nowadays, engines can take a lot of abuse. As said before, you don't really want to be redlining it right after you start the car, but you can give it a little gas with no problems. PEACE.
