Wichita, Kansas - Reporter Matt Mauro of TV station KWCH in Wichita, KS was doing a live report for the 6:00 news on what locals say is a dangerous intersection.

As Mauro is narrating the dangers of the intersection in the town of Maize, an accident happens right in front of him.

The video shows a truck slamming into a car during the live broadcast. KWCH is reporting that the driver of the truck was not seriously injured, but the driver of the car is listed in critical condition in the hospital.

No charges have been filed and the Sedgewick County Sheriffs Department is continuing their investigation.

More carnage! (No pun intended.)

No shit. Get out of "Reporter mode" and check on them.

The ironic thing is, the car driver was probably distracted by this news crew on the corner.

It looks like the red car was at fault. The truck doesn't have to stop. The red car didn't check to see if anyone was comming. It looks like they just stoped and went with out looking first.

Yup. Add in the white van blocking her view, and the idiot reporter on the corner which is sure to draw attention, and you've got Burnout 3's crash mode.

It looks to me like the red cars view was blocked by the van that went past it, thus the driver proceeded to turn without really stopping and checking after the van had moved out of the way.

That's so funny but so fucked up. :lol :lol

True... it's like damn that's fucked up... the car driver obviously divided their attention between the news crew and the white van coming across and didn't look up 53rd... the accident happens the banner changes to breaking news... and this idiot is still talking/reporting.... incredible

Damn, the drive of the car was at fault. The truck had the right of way and the car pulled out in front of it. That's why you look both ways before you cross.

PS. Didn't see the other two posts saying the same thing.

yes, I too think the car didn't check good because they were distracted by the news crew.

That's why you are told to pay attention to the road and driving and not looking out the side window at other people or things.

You know this guy just signed over a deal with the devil when he lost all compasion for human life and continued on with his job. Thats pretty sad.

I'm not sure why people keep saying the reporter should have done something. He didn't need to pick up a cell phone or anything considering he was doing a live shot. You don't get get much better than a live satellite video feed in terms of communications technology these days.

More importantly he immediately repeated the location of the accident so the guys in the control room could call for help. We also don't see anything more than a few seconds after the crash, so it's very possible he went and checked on the people in the vehicles after the clip ended.

In any event, most people don't get a video of the crash to explain things to the police/insurance companies.

This is like that Princess Di thing. The reporter just standing there giving running commentary, not even thinking to run across and help out. That would be my first reaction, to maybe keep talking, but run across to the car that just got smashed. Oh well, I guess you can chalk it up to shock. That is a dangerous intersection. :lol I shouldn't laugh, but it's pretty funny that there's a bigass accident while this reporter is talking about how dangerous the intersection it. He could have been killed. Crazy. PEACE.

I don't see anyone in this thread complaining about him not calling for an ambulance. Because, and I might be assuming too much, we did hear him repeat the location, knew it was live, and aren't fucking idiots.

The problem I have, is that he went right back into the story without checking their condition. Any driver's safety course teaches you to check on the drivers immediately, turn off the ignition for the driver if the car is still running, and move them (only) if they're about to be burned alive.

We don't know that though. He was on a wireless mic, so he could have been moving around without it sounding any different to us. We also don't see him on camera, so we don't know where he was after the crash. We know that he didn't just stand still because when the camera pans back to the left near the end he's gone. When the reporter says "and...ah" a few times it seems like he's doing something that's distracting him.

This poor reporter is suddenly being villified everywhere on the Internet for a 1:00 video clip...

That reporter didn't do crap but keep talking. If he was walking or running towards the car, you would have heard the mic rustling against his clothes. He didn't check on anyone, his main concern was that the camera was still running.

I know it looks like the cars at fault, but when I saw this on the news last night they mentioned that the truck completely ignored a Yield sign.

Duders, he was on live TV. If the studio didn't call 911 right afterwards, then about 20,000 viewers would have. He probably knew that, and also knew that leaving car accidents alone -- instead of messing around with them and possibly causing more injuries and yes, liability -- is the safer bet if you're not a trained EMT.

The guy in the video said that the vehicles coming from the direction that the truck was coming from didn't have to stop. Also you can see no cars coming from the direction of the truck prior to it stopped and all the cars crossing from where the car wa did.

Umm bullshit if you see an accident happen in front you while you're driving you mean to say you'll just keep driving? That's basically what this reporter did. Sorry I've seen accidents happen in front of me, I've seen people slide off the road in the snow, in rain, etc... you always at least go over to see if assistance is needed.

Did anyone see that 9/11 camera footage. It was a guy running around for absolutely ages, my memory is hazy but it was more than 10 minutes and included the first tower collapsing and him walking around filming for quite a while after that, before finally saying 'I need to see if people need help' or something to that effect.

I mean its not like he was in shock or panicing or anything, he was relative calm, moving around and commenting on all the stuff going on (and not in an OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, OH MY FREAKIN GOD, kinda way). Then there was some interview with him afterwards where he was saying that as soon as he knew what was happening he knew he had to help in some. To which I was thinking, 'yeah, just as soon as you get enough footage to sell to a network.

Maybe it's wrong of me to diss him, but after watching some 10+ minutes of the guy doing nothing to help anyone (and IIRC he actually filmed a guy who'd been hit by some debris, asked him if he was okay then carried on filming leaving the guy sitting on the pavement), I was annoyed by his self-aggrandisement (of course dressed up in some mock modesty).

I'd actually like to see this. Did you download it or is it apart of some tv special?

It was just some news thing at the time. I think it came out a couple of days later. I think as far as footage recorded in the area as the towers collapsed goes it was the first or at least part of the first batch that was shown. I just remember it vividly because of what I described.

Anyone have the video anywhere? I really want to see it, but I just read that they pulled it off the web and all their news affiliates are being told to take it down, too.
