This thing will just not die. I am shocked no one is talking about this right now. The clock runs out September 30, but the Senate GOP is making one last effort.

Politico article

“I’m pretty confident we’ll get there on the Republican side,” he said, calling the midweek discussion what "may have been my best day as a senator."

“We’re probably at 48, 49, and talking to two or three more," he said.

An aide to Cassidy said later that they still believe there’s a path to 50 votes, even without Paul’s support.

But doing it all before the end of the month remains a long shot. The CBO has not yet scored the bill’s effects, and senators are still sorting through how their states would fare under legislation that would dismantle Obamacare in favor of sending block grants to individual states.

Rand Paul came out against it today, which means absolutely nothing since he was opposed to the previous effort yet still voted for it.

Murkowski and Collins are likely still hard "No"s.

McCain came out in support last week, but then clarified that he would only support if it goes through regular order (which it can't to meet the September 30 deadline).

Skinny repeal me if old!

McCain seems like a stickler for procedure, so at best (worst?) he's a maybe at the moment. Same with Paul. It has always been close to 50, but close to 50 and at 50 are two very different realities, as has been seen.

We'll see, though. I'll certainly be keeping a worried eye on it.

Don't be like that. Defeatism is a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's likely that over time, it'll get more difficult to pass, especially after the 2018 midterms when we can assuming the Republican majority in Congress will decrease, if not switch to a Democratic majority; people tend to vote against the president's party in midterm elections, after all.

They have until September 30 to pass this latest bill. If we can defeat it by then, we'll still be safe for now and the chances that they end up passing any repeal bill at all will decrease even more.

Please don't ignore this. I'm reading that this latest effort is very real. The next 15 days or so are critical. Please call your senators, especially if they're Republican, to oppose this bill.

I think the Republican line of thinking is that while passing it pisses of the moderates, not passing it (especially after years of saying they would if they get the chance) will piss of the base, and they'd much rather not piss off the base in fear of being primaried in their own states (like Flake and Heller are having happen right now).

Heller looks especially doomed. And Flake wasn't looking to be in great shape going into 2018. But if they pass this crap? I actually think the GOP might lose the Senate.

(To say nothing of the dangers to their House majority.)

The Democrats are apparently looking at Corker, whoever replaces Sessions, and Cruz as targets.

Right wing media is slamming the GOP hard for not repealing Obamacare. They don't give a fuck what it looks like, as long as they keep their promise! The actual bill doesn't matter to your average low information Conservative voter.

That Trumpcare bills tend to have an approval rating of less than 20%, and they drag Trump's numbers down to the low-to-mid 30s would indicate that people do care. It's only the most hardcore conservatives, and/or those that would benefit greatly from the tax cuts, that really care.

If it was that simple they would have passed something already. Murkowski and Collins aren't afraid of voting against a bill they don't like. McCain seems serious about wanting regular order and has nothing to lose as he isn't up for reelection till 2022 (if he is still alive).

There is one hurdle the GOP cannot overcome, the absolute collapse they could bring about in healthcare if they pull the trigger. They know it is basically a giant Jenga game at this point but they promised to repeal and now they can't and their base is so stupid and had their head filled with all this nonsense BY THE GOP they won't be satisfied with anything less.

This is starting to make me think they're doing what the house did: just pass anything in the Senate so it can die i n the house and they can blame them next year.

So sadly I'd wager this passes now but never gets implemeneted.

Maybe trump will throw another party though so we can get some nice pics of senators celebrating killing people.

The negative impacts won't be felt until AFTER the mid-terms. It'd effect 2020.

This law will have instant effects.

The GOP owns anything that goes wrong with this bill. There is no blaming Obamacare when there is no more Obamacare. They can try, but it doesn't work.

Most Republican Senators aren't up for reelection. Murkowski, McCain, and Paul aren't until 2022, and Collins in 2020.

It won't even go into law soon enough for anyone to be effected... and even then for a year or two they can blame Obamacare for why things are bad and that'll take time to recover from how terrible Obamacare was and how much it fucked us.
