Catching up on old Xbox games pt2: DJV2FfNY

Blackace

if you see me in a fight with a bear, don't help me fool, help the bear!
Ok inbetween playing Jade Empire with my new Xbox that I have bought AGAIN, after my old one brought from the States with me to Japan broke. I have been playing Def Jam 2, and I know it isn't a Xbox only game, but for whatever reason I skipped it for the PS2.. I am glad I decided on picking it up on the cheap... this game is one of the best wrestling/fighting games I have played since N64 Yukes days.. Of course it helps that I love hip hop and know all of the artist.. and don't like more than a few.. :lol

This is the perfect example of when advertising in games is good... Buying gear for your guy is one of an awesome part of the game.. The only issue I have had with this is the camera is wanky during the 4 man free for alls, or the team matches... other than taht this is a near perfect wrestling/fighter.. I can see how if you didn't like hip-hop you'd be turned off by the outside skin of the game.. but I think someone who hated hiphop would have more fun kicking the crap out of Snoop than The Big Show.. just one way to look at it!

Me and my friends used to love this. We'd play it for hours on end. I don't even want to know how many leftover points we've accumulated... Personal favorite is Sticky Fingaz (since we'd avoid playing with custom characters since they were so good and nobody could be bothered to create and buff up their own on my XB).

Only part I really don't like is the fact that you can't start over with your character. I'd like to fill my trophy rack but there's no way I can or want to get all of them in a single go. Also, the game never gives you enough money to go totally overboard with your bling and gear. I could never afford the most expensive jewelry, even when playing on hard...

Well being from the West Coast, and getting WC's blaze move has to be one of the greatest things that has happened to me in fighting video games ever.

I will be replaying this game again as a different guy, and the next time I will be hoarding my money like Uncle Scrooge. also my buddy is moving to Japan soon, so I see us playing this game until the break of dawn..

I also love the game and recently rebought it to be a perminant part of the collection. Better enjoy this version if you like the AKI grapple influence. It doesn't look like Def Jam 3 (comes out in spring 06) is going to retain that kind of feel. It is being developed by the fight night creators, so it probably will have a control scheme like that.

I thought it was a fun wrestling game, which is an achievement since I hate wrestling games.

wasn't Godfather supposed to be EA's first M rated game, though?

Ahhh.. well I guess this is a good franchise to change the feel for.. keeping it fresh it a good idea.. also fight night controls with some grappling could be very interesting indeed

One more thing to add,.. they really nailed the modelsin this game.. way better than most of the other sports game.. Snoop is dead on.. as so is Busta and Meth.. like scary dead on..

Strange, I started playing this recently too. While I've been enjoying it overall, there are some things that are bothersome. For one, the original appearance edit (for face and whatnot) leaves a lot to be desired. There's very little variety possible and everyone comes out looking retarded. This is pretty well offset by the huge variety in attires and whatnot though. Currently, I'm playing with a submission specialist in a wifebeater and gi pants with bare feet. You guys can keep all your Ecko and Sean Jean bullshit! ;)

One other thing I dislike is the change where now you have to hold L to do strong grapples. What was wrong with simply holding the button longer like in the past games? It isn't that big of a deal but I did find it mildly irksome.

Overall, it's a very enjoyable game though. After playing the demo initially, I didn't like the sped-upedness and other gameplay changes. Now, I've come to terms with the fact that we're likely never getting another Aki wrestling game and have learned to enjoy the game for what it is.

The AI still blows though.
