Spanish society has been shaken by allegations of the theft and trafficking of thousands of babies by nuns, priests and doctors, which started under Franco and continued up to the 1990s.

The Catholic Church really is one of the most disgusting institutions around. I hope they crash and burn as a whole as soon as possible (not that there's any chance for that), so Catholics don't have to deal with these filthy pigs which are shitting on every part of the religion they supposedly represent.
 
Holy shit. This is absolutely insane and manages to out insane everything else the Catholic Church has done if the allegations are true.

I dunno... I think the systematic raping of hundreds of thousands of children over the past century is a bit worse.

Although I guess stealing the kid THEN raping them trumps all.

Have faith in the Church. These and other incidences are only the ones people have found out about.

But while we're on the subject, the countless bloodshed of indigenous populations because they wont accept their way of life seems to rank up there pretty high too.

The thing is, while raping children and mass murder, while extremely vile, they seem predictable for an organization like the Catholic church.

Stealing babies, however, is just absurd. I mean just saying it sounds absurd.

Par for the course for the Catholic Church. Sometimes they just seem like an over the top "evil organization" you'd only see in bad movies.

I don't understand. Why would they do this?

Also, what about this makes the lawyers believe the numbers could go that high? to have 900 potential cases is one thing...but to speculate 299,100 more of them might be out there seems...a bit irresponsible to just toss out there for world consumption unless there's a really strong reason that can be presented for such a belief.

the religion doesn't sanction this kind of behavior. this is a case of people doing whatever the fuck they want in the name of religion.

I imagine Jesus wearing a t-shirt saying, "Christians - Stop embarrassing me."

Though really, people doing things like this aren't Christians in the first place. No way you can engage in these activities and associate yourself with these practices.

Offering them to well to do Catholic families. After all, those babies came from questionable households (read: atheists, leftists and pauper scum), so they kindly gave them a new opportunity.

Remember that this happened during and right after Franco's dictatorship, when the Catholic church had a tremendous sway in the country.

And they still wonder why Spaniards have gone from being fervoursly Catholic to rarely stepping inside a church.

The organisation schemed and carried on the entire operation for decades. The Church deserves every bit of shit it gets.

And I think this probably had more to do with Franco and his cronies, rather than the Catholic Church as a whole.
