When Cleveland wins, everybody wins.

At least if you work for the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise.

Dan Gilbert is reportedly spending approximately $1 million to give every single Cavs employee, from janitors to ushers to police officers, an NBA championship ring, according to The Today Show.

The ring ceremony with the team is expected to take place before the home opener against the New York Knicks Oct. 25.

Sport's GAF you cool with this, and if you were an employee would you want a ring?

Soemething tells me it wont be the same ring. Something akin to a cereal box surprise. But it's definitely a nice gesture.

Being from the UK, I didn't even know this was a basketball team until I read the NBA bit... But still, that's really cool of the owner. No club of any kind functions without great backroom staff.

It's definitely not the real ring. He's made that clear. I work for the flagship radio station and everyone involved with the day to day broadcast of the game and associated programs is receiving the rings. They aren't diamond-encrusted, but damn they are going to be really nice. Dan Gilbert is the man.

This made me laugh, thanks for that haha

Anyways, very nice gesture, even though the guy has had some shady business practices doesn't mean he's not capable of being nice.

If I worked for the org. I would prefer to just get the cash value, but good on him I suppose.

Sometimes there is more to winning than money. Here in Cleveland, we have been beaten and stepped on so many times that that ring is more important than any dollar amount. (within reason!)

Douche Gilbert trying to not be a douche. Kinda nice.

Dan Gilbert is consistently one of the most amazing and gracious people I have had the pleasure to interact with regularly. IDK what you're talking about. If this is about "the letter" , you'll be surprised to know that he is loved for it here, and loved even more for his ability to get past it and swallow his pride in his presentation that resulted in "the return".

How generous that he spends $1 million of the tens of millions he pockets from having LeBron James' presence on his miserable ass franchise and city.

The Letter and allowing Lebron to have trash around him for years. Gilbert failed Lebron and was a direct cause of Lebron leaving. Mo Williams being the number 2 guy was just a travesty. Now, Gilbert is paying thru the nose because he allowed the initial situation.

The letter is just hypocrisy. Cause a situation and don't take full blame? Get all pissy because a guy exercised his rights? I'll never be okay with owners cutting and trading players without care and getting pissy when the star bolts. Take that L and wear it proudly. And it led to the best timeline. Finally, Gilbert is starting to get better, but mostly because Lebron demanded it. So, we'll see in 10 years.

Even Pat Riley is throwing shade a little too much for my liking at Lebron. Dude can't just let a generational player go because it directly impacts their legacy.

I think the new age is for superstars to leave and pick and choose the right place for them, not for the fans or for the owners. You won't have a Garnett or Barkley stay for a decade and waste their prime years, only to chase a ring late in their careers. And it should put owners and front office staff on notice. Get good coaches and get a good team around these stars. Durant suffered with a terrible coach for too long.

Hell, they fired that russian dude after 1.5 seasons in Cleveland and Mike Brown stole too many checks for Dan Gilbert to not get shit.

Cav’s owner Dan Gilbert and his partners are giving more than 1,000 full and part-time employees throughout the team’s franchise a custom 2016 NBA championship ring, Cleveland.com reports.

So, around $1000 per ring. I don't have any $1000 rings so, a win. And they'll be mini royalty for a few years. They'll get some extra dates and a few extra invites to a few BBQs.

LOL at this.

I can't imagine how much courage it took to let the best player in the world come back to give you a championship.

It's a nice gesture.

The least he could do after Lebron was willing to grace him with his return. And after winning 30 draft lotteries.

I understand what you're "lol"ing at, but don't forget Dan Gilbert is a multi billionaire who would have continued to be one with or without LBJ coming back. Billionaires have egos, too.

He's lol'ing at your idea that "swallowing his pride" because of how terribly he handled the LeBron thing the first time around, and oh so graciously allowing the best player in the world to sign with his precious team, is presented as some kind of credit to Gilbert. He's a piece of shit for the borderline whiny plantation owner way he handled the Decision. Fuck him.

Still a nice thing to do tho, fam. Take a breath.

Golden State fan?

So true. Im ready for the era of the hypocrisy with teams straight up trading players willy nilly and noone saying anything but everyone throwing a fit when a player uses their right to move to come to an end.

Front offices need to get their shit together and not just expect to have a player stay with them no matter what. Those early cav teams/coaches when Lebron were there were fucking awful.

I love that out of his entire response, that's all you could find fault with.

This, one thousand times over. Dan Gilbert is a piece of shit.

Man, I am detecting a lot of jealousy here. The guy is a great success and treats employees very well. That's what this thread is about, how he has treated his employees to a thoughtful "bonus." Calling him a "piece of shit" because of some letter he wrote that you don't like is going a bit too far.

Not even a Cavs fan but would not mind owning their ring. Will be checking EBay. Hopefully I can get one cheap from a worker down on their luck and looking for a few dollars for the holidays.

Indeed, but there were lots of reasons for that. It was difficult to attract free agents to a team that never had success and was in a mediocre city in the midwest, few high-quality free agents were available during those periods, and CLE never really had good trade pieces to use to get anyone good via trade.

It's the curse of being in the "lukewarm". Not cold enough to get good draft picks, but not hot enough to seriously contend. It's why most middle-of-the-road teams (CHI, ATL, IND, POR, DAL, PHX, CHA, etc.) end up breaking up in a few years time. You want to be rebuilding or contending. Being in the middle is an abyss. We were in the abyss because LBJ was just that fucking good that he could make a group of players that could only win 17 games without him win 55-60 with him.

The only meaningful roster difference between his last year in CLE when they won like 60 games and the following year when they won 17 or 18 was LBJ. It's amazing that he could make that big an impact, but because he did it meant it was difficult to get the kind of talent around him he deserved. Couple the pressure to try to "win now" to keep him, and you have a recipe for problems.

But that shit doesn't matter anymore. We got a ring, baby.
