After receiving a phone bill of $150 this month(my usual bill is $50/month), I am deciding to fucking change providers. I'm currently on AT&T wireless. The reason it's so high is because of roaming; I spend all my time on the road for work.

I am wondering 2 things about getting a completely new provider/plan:

1) There are plans out there that have no roaming fees, right?

2) Are there any plans you can get contracted for a period of 6 months... I realize that the usual is at LEAST a year, but I see myself out of the country next July, so I'd rather find a plan that is flexible if possible. If not, I guess I'll have to pay the cancellation fee.

Any help appreciated.

1) I have Sprint and the have roaming and I have been to some really out of the way places. I'm currently 20 miles from Mexico and I have never been in a roaming area. You might want to look into them.

2) There are some services that allow you to pay by the month, but I'm pretty sure you have to stay close to your home area or you will get screwed with roaming and or long distance.

Why not just get a more appropriate plan?

Hmmm thanks guys.. will definitely check out AT&T nationwide if I can.. I also forgot to mention that I have shitty reception on the road, which is also a big reason I'm thinking about changing providers. However, could the fact that my phone is an older model be the cause, rather than AT&T?

Yes. The RF of a phone is a huge factor in determining how well the phone will pick up signal. There are places where I try to use my work phone in my house and it doesn't work (0% signal). However my personal phone works just fine and has 50% signal.
