This may be completely wrong, but I think playing a cupcake lets you come out for your next game at game speed while still essentially having a bye week. Bye weeks tend to favor offenses more than defenses.

Totally agree here. Both our losses came after byes and in both losses, our defense played well below season averages. I'd rather a cupcake than a bye.

In fairness one of them had a defender fall down and the other had the defender take a bad angle. Both play callers in this game seem to want to call the worst possible plays for their teams though.
