Awesome!, I'll get this for sure.
Really loved the game, it's probably my favorite retro style JRPG so far and still up there as one of my favorite games this gen.

Holy shit. I was not expecting this one. Wishlisted at lightning speed.

It's the best indie JRPG by far, made by a solo dev to boot. And it manages to school many AA-AAA games too in my opinion. Good stuff all around.

I played the first hour or so about a year ago. I remember it being super fun and thinking it may have some of the best turn based combat I'd played in a while. Glad to see if isn't being forgotten about because what I played of it was really, really good.

A small-time streamer I like a lot did a funny and very in-depth review on Chained Echoes and Sea of Stars and how they took their inspiration too far.

Still haven't played this (and it's looking more and more unlikely I ever will) because I've been waiting on my Switch physical copy that I ordered in 2022.

They sent me a Steam download code a few months ago, but I kinda wanted to play this on the Switch, and I didn't spend $65 to get a Steam key.

I love the first one, 100% will buy this one as soon as it comes out, if possible I need to try to grab either the limited or collector's edition...

Am I the only one who really likes the art and everything about the game's visual BUT the main characters sprite art?

I didn't finish the game when I finally checked it out a couple months back (blame Metaphor), but what I played was excellent. Definitely will dive back in when this launches.

Awesome, I really enjoyed the base game. Not too much time for video games these days but I'll definitely pick this up.

New release date trailer:

(spoiler - it's 7th August, 2025)

I somehow missed the original announcement..!

I don't get this. I played the game nearly 2 years ago. How the fuck am I supposed to be able to jump back in for a DLC?

Usually in such cases, the best solution is some kind of full edition with all the DLC. When you can turn on the game and actually play it from the beginning + all the DLC. I also played the game from day 1 and I don't remember anything, although I have saves, but apparently the only solution to refresh your memory is to start everything from the very beginning...

From the GOG and Steam listings:

Ashes of Elrant takes place right before the end of Chained Echoes. While you and your clan are preparing for the final fight, a new call for help reaches the Crimson Wings. This mission will reveal more about the origin of the Order of Leonar and Lenne's past. What challenges await you in a new land where nothing is as it seems?
By the sound of it, if you finished the game already you'll be able to load up that save (which will be just before the final battle) and do this DLC. That's what I'm planning on doing. I'll probably spend a few hours fighting some basic monsters, so I can remember how the mechanics all work.

Still feel for those that ordered this physical edition and never got it.
Its Been A Long Time Waiting GIF

Well, only three... but I can't think of any other purchase I've ever made in my life that I've had to wait so long for. Every day that passes without news is more faith gone that I'll ever get it. I'm at like 99.99999% certainty that it'll never actually manifest.

In 2022 when the game released, the physical release was handed off to First Press Games which is based in Germany. I placed an order in good faith, and the payment was via Paypal only, which pulled the funds immediately from my bank. Turns out, this company is known for basically scamming people, and three years later I'm still waiting on the game to be delivered. They keep pushing back timetables on these releases, and it seems like they just keep delaying things long enough so that people forget they pre-ordered stuff from them, so that they don't get sued. My ability to open a case with Paypal or do a chargeback through my bank has LONG passed.

Before Chained Echoes, they had only done some physical released on some super obscure stuff - some of which still hasn't been delivered to customers that ordered their games as far back as 2019. They don't respond to customer support requests either, all very "fly by night".

Last year they sent Steam keys out to buyers of the Switch version. I suppose it was a good gesture, but it's the only deliverable I've had on my $70 investment (that's an expensive Steam key, the game is on sale right now for $16). Good thing I have a PC. I think they only sent these out to try and further skirt EU law regarding refunds.

I've almost totally written off ever seeing this physical game in my hands, and the price I paid I just consider to be an expensive lesson in getting scammed by these boutique physical game companies. I hear this game is great, but this whole physical experience has soured me on the game in general, so I have a hard time looking forward to this new DLC.

That's messed up.
I'm guessing that even if there was to be any legal recourse, it probably wouldn't be worth the time and effort, which is what these shady companies rely on.

Oh, didn't realize there was a physical version coming. Is that exclusive to Kickstarter?

Edit: Nevermind, read the info above. :(
