Amazon/Gamestop has Chaos Field (GCN) for $19.99 brand new. Gamestop.com and EBGames.com also have it for $19.99 new/$17.99 used. It came out right around Christmas, IIRC.

That's only, what, $10 less than its original price. The game didn't have a very big print run, did it?

I doubt they made very many. I saw two copies at a Fry's, and I've seen one or two per EB and Gamestop. Haven't seen it anywhere else.

how is this? I think I vaguely remember playing a DC version of this game. But it may have been a different game entirely.

It's pretty lifeless in terms of atmosphere, but it offers a nice challenge. There's more to the game than the DC import you remember, because the GCN version is actually Chaos Field Expanded. In addition to the original mode (which is all boss fights), there's a normal mode which has some conventional top-down action.

At $20 I'll definitely bite, even though I've heard lots of reports about its mediocrity, and Ibara is coming out soon. But I still have to support the genre in the US...

I do wonder what the lifetime total is on this so far (in the US). 10K? Maybe not even that.

We've settled for mediocre shooters :(
Maybe you have, but we got the proper systems to play the (plentiful and) better shooters that are out today.

No fair posting "BOMBA" without sales figures.

BOMBA!

j/k

Sweet Lord, that's miserable. :( I guess that's what no advertising + so-so reviews + weak genre will get you.

Was that for the short December, or does it include January?

Just a joke, dude. I don't have access to NPD, except what gets posted here.

Good riddance to a weak shmup.

Aside from the large bosses, which are rather nondescript anyway, the only other thing Chaos Field has going for it is that it exists. I'm generally pretty forgiving of shmups, but I had my fill of Chaos Field in barely a day. So many other good shmups out in Japan right now that could use to be released in North America... and we got that one. Bleah.
