SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Cult killer Charles Manson has been caught with a smuggled cell phone for the second time.

Corrections spokeswoman Terry Thornton said Wednesday that guards found the phone Jan. 6 at Corcoran State Prison.

Manson previously was caught with a phone in March 2009. He had been calling and texting people in California, Florida, New Jersey and British Columbia. He had missed calls from Arkansas, Indiana and Massachusetts.

Thornton couldn't immediately say who he'd been calling this time, nor how he got the phone.

Manson is serving a life sentence for killings including the infamous murders of actress Sharon Tate and six others in Los Angeles in 1969.

He faces a disciplinary hearing and could lose early release credits. The Legislature plans to consider a bill making inmates' possession of phones illegal.

How'd YOU like to get a call from Charlie?

Wonder how he was charging the cell since I don't think prison cells have electrical outlets in them -- or do they?

They do, prisoners often have crazy shit. There was a recent case where some prisoners had PS3s and the warden was unaware that they were using them for internet access.

EDIT: and in another case, for charging their cellphones via the USB ports:

The PlayStation console can do many things. Sony even bills its PS3 as a computer more than just a games console, given that it used to be able to officially run Linux.

Now prisoners in the UK have found that they make handy cell phone chargers too out of PlayStation 3s, thanks to the USB ports. Prisoners have been stealing USB computer mice from classrooms to take back with them to their cells so that they can charge their illegal cell phones from the powered USB connections.

The prisoners were able to use the USB connector from the mouse and then splice the cord in ways to provide power to their mobiles. The prison discovered this when they found mice plugged into the consoles inside their cells.

A debt collecting company should hire him. Imagine getting a call from Charles Manson demanding you pay an old utility bill.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider

A British prison has banned PS3 access to its inmates as it feared the machine could be used in an escape attempt.

Rye Hill prisoners were using the console’s wireless capabilities to chat to people on the outside, according to this Guardian report.

“PlayStation 3 consoles are barred on the grounds that they have the capability to send and receive radio signals as an integral part of the equipment,” said a prison spokesperson.

I wonder how the conversation explaining cell phones to Charles Manson went. He's been in jail since long before cell phones existed, trying to explain this contraption to a crazy as fuck mass murderer must have been a strange and entertaining convo.

What? That's like plugging a lamp into another lamp and having them both light up.

lol He would have to be a lot older than he is to be confused by a cell phone. If someone knew what a phone was they should be able to understand a cell phone. "Its a phone, but without wires. Like a CB."

You use the USB cord spliced to the cell phone to plug into the computer. The mouse end isnt there.

Awesome journalism.

He neither killed cults, nor while in a cult, killed anyone. Actually he is not known to have killed anyone in any context.

Quality.

If they can plug the PS3 in, why can't they plug the phone in? If you need a power outlet, you can't solve your problems by using another device that needs a power outlet...

Maybe going right from the wall to the phone is a little too much power?

"You type the number here, talk here, and listen here."
"Oh, it's a phone?"

I worked for a certain phone company until a few months ago. They handled Corcoran, where he was located. Anyway, one of our field technicians worked in the area and was always talking to Manson. Apparently Manson has a private area with a phone set up with free international calling so he can contact his lawyer. My tech would joke with me about how Manson was a nice guy, though always smugly.

One day he asked me if I wanted to leave a message for Charles and he would tell him next time I was in jail (obviously joking, because this would not only be detrimental to our jobs, but also highly illegal). I said "yeah, ask him how Sharon Tate is doing".

He makes this grunt and asks, "who's Sharon Tate?".

Good time to suggest the book 'Helter Skelter' to those who haven't read it. Fascinating stuff.

Written by Bugliosi, the lawyer who convicted Manson. Reads part like a novel, part like a legal document.
