Theron books stint on Fox's 'Development'

Oscar winner Charlize Theron is set to add some star power to Fox's "Arrested Development" when its third season debuts next month. Theron has signed on to guest star in five episodes of the series, playing a British woman who becomes the love interest of "Development" star Jason Bateman. Theron will debut in the second "Development" episode of the season, following its Sept. 19 premiere. Theron earned her best actress Oscar last year for her portrayal of a serial killer in "Monster." (Cynthia Littleton)
Potential spoiler about Theron's character.

I believe her character is mentally handicapped

Ausiello: Well, as I (read: me, me, me, me, me!) first reported in Monday's Entertainment News, Charlize Theron is coming on board for five episodes as an offbeat British chick who falls for Jason Bateman's Michael. From what I've heard about the story, there's a huge — and potentially controversial — twist with Theron's character. Oh, and I should point out it's freakin' genius. Genius.

It certainly doesn't suck to be Jason Bateman. For a character who's meant to be a bit too much of a nice guy to get the ladies, he sure pulls those hotties.

thats the thing though, hes not a nice guy even if he thinks himself as one.
Thats what makes his character great, and the potential for irony even greater.

Quoted for truth. Michael is so often exactly what he hates.

Not sure if I'd say that exactly. Care to elaborate (bearing in mind we're only 3 episodes into the 2nd season in the UK, so no spoilers if it's stuff that develops after that)?

I see him as being a control freak (unless that's what you are alluding to) but he is completely oblivious to his own faults, so I guess I can kind of see where you are coming from.

This is hardly a big spoiler -- but a good episode dealing with Michael's morality is:

he steals a chair from the office

Michael IS essentially a good guy, but he almost revels in the goody-two-shoes image too much to be genuinely selfless. He also has the Bluth tendency of bending the rules slightly and lying when it's easy to fit his own ends, but just not even close to the extent that the rest of the family does (see the Marta and Heather Graham episodes).

It's that episode where Lindsay says he gets a false sense of superiority from being the good guy I think.

I still don't think that doesn't make him a nice guy, it's more that he's so aware of it, that it takes some of the sheen off.

I didn't say he wasn't a nice guy. I don't necessarily think the rest of the family is not nice either. But when he stands on his soapbox and goes off about being the only one that cares about the family, that's pretty far from the truth, because a) the others do care, they just show it in different ways, and b) Michael is often doing the things he does not for the company or family, but for his own prestige and to inflate his own importance. Those goals may intersect, but his intentions aren't always nearly as selfless or noble as he pretends.

oops sorry this was past ep 3 on season 2

oh and theres that classic example of....

actually just wait. Youll start to see during the latter half of season 2 how inconsistent jason bateman's character is :lol
