I saw that at K-Mart, the old PSOnes are on clearance for $40, and the LCD screens are $26. I still have a perfectly functional Playstation (the big boxy one, not the PSOne model), and I don't even play it that much any more, but I keep all my games if I ever feel like returning to them. Do you think maybe it would be worth it to splurge?

I bought (off eBay) a mini PSOne + LCD for $67 shipped, and I don't regret it. This was perhaps a month ago, and it is the first PSOne I've ever owned. (I used to play my PSOne games on my PS2, but I've got a few games that just aren't fully compatible with it.) Now I can play shit like Dragon Warrior 7 and Grandia and Castlevania in bed. Hot shit.

I'd buy the PSone + LCD in a heartbeat if we saw those kinds of deals in Canada. I think they're still retailing for $179.99 here, if not more. I do want to replay classics on that beautiful display, but only for <$100.

It was even better; the PSOnes are just $29.99 now. If you're looking to get a backup for just in case your old one fails and you still have games you want to play, that's a pretty decent price.

Apparently a lot of people use them (the LCDs) in casemods for PCs, but I have no idea how or why to do that.

You probably won't be able to find many any more, but apparently the price for the Sony-brand LCDs dropped even further to $13 recently, so if you're just curious about trying to mod one of them for something else (from the pictures I've seen, the process look a little scary, though for $13 a screwup wouldn't be that bad a sacrifice) you might swing by to see if there are any left. I think most of the people on FW where I posted about this may have cleaned them out. Some of them were buying up to three at a time if they found any.

I traded some DVDs for a PSOne with Sony LCD well over a year ago. I don't regret it, but I don't really use it much either. The LCD is nice, but I can't help but feel it's overrated, especially with how apparent the backlight wash-out is.
