Recently my older brother had his second child and named the boy "Gannon" (intentionally not spelled with 1 N) .

I thought it was pretty cool, and is obscure enough that non-gamers wont know the difference. (They might think, "You were named after a washed up Raider Quarterback?")

Does anyone else know of anyone who named thier kids with videogame names?

Serafitia, that's probably the most awesome avatar ever.

Now you've got me in a pirate mood. I might make one of my pirate pics into my new avatar.

Chris Charla from Next Generation magazine wanted to name his first child Dig Dug.

The child was eventually named Oscar, which is just fine.

That's why we have pets: so we can take our video-game-naming urges out on them and not saddle our kids with bully fodder like "Kuribo's Shoe Smith" for the rest of their lives. :)

I'd only do it if the name were "normal." "Zelda," while a little uncommon these days, is a perfectly legitimate, real-life name for a girl. But there certainly won't be any Toadstools, Peaches, Snakes, or Icos in my family. Ever.

If I ever get my own dog, I will not be averse to naming him Zero, though. NMBC is awesome, and pets are allowed to have pretty unique names. Dogs don't make fun of other dogs.

Sure they do. Cats do as well. You should see how much ass Little Big Momma (a boy BTW) has to kick on a daily basis to have street cred.

Well, you didn't do him any favors naming him "Little Bog Momma"

I would never name him "Bog."

;)

He acts like a female and meows like a little 3 pound female and is now 25 pounds. He did it to himself. :) And he is orange and white. If I photoshop black stripes, he'd look like your avatar. He uses all his weight and pounces on the cat in my avatar.

Man I have to start playing around with photoshop. :)

I knew two italian brothers in grammar school that were named Mario and Luigi, they weren't too happy about it. Even their older brother vincent gave them shit.

I know a guy who named his son and daughter Luke and Leia. Pretty cool stuff.

I know a little kid named Anakin, I feel terrible for that child.

Serious Star Wars fanboys should not be allowed to name their children.

anyone have the urge to name their daughter Samus?

Some friends of mine named their daughter Aran. I can't wait to tell her the story behind her name when she gets older.

Some people treat cats as children...the kids I babysat a few years back had way too much naming power, so their cats are Diddy and Kazooie.

Miyamoto chose the name Zelda from Zelda Fitzgerald? That's awesome. Of course, she ended up critically ill and died in pain and before her time, but still.

needs to show more effort.
I don't know anyone with video game names, though I wouldn't be surprised if some of my friends end up naming their own kids after anime/game characters.

I myself would prolly do it though I'd pick names of more obscure games or side characters. I would want a name that even if someone knew where the name came from they wouldn't be able to know for sure that they were named that after the game character. Like Zelda, sure when I see someone named zelda I immediately think of the game but you don't neccisarily know thats the reason for their name.

I would probably want to name a daughter Celes.

My cat is named Marit as from Death Gate Cycle.

I know a little girl named "Akira"

(it's the closest thing I could come up with)

I wonder how that would go over in Japan, seeing how Akira is a male name.

Seriously, do not name your children after anime/movies/games, you're damning them to a childhood of torment from their peers.

OT, but this thread reminded me. A friend of mine used to run some art camp summer program for inner city kids. One of the girl's names?

My brother in law is from Texas, he went to school with twins named Lemonjello and Orangejello. I didn't believe him at first, but he showed me one of his annuals and there they were.

Seriously now, who names their kids Lemon Jello and Orange Jello?

I've heard this story before from one of my friends. But I live in Ohio. I believe your story so it looks like I'm gonna have to call bullshit on one of my buddies. :lol

were the name pronunciations:

Or-on-jelo and Lem-on-jelo?

Yep. He told me this a few years back and I didn't believe him, so when he and my sister went to Texas, I asked him to bring his middle school annual with him if he still had it. Unfortunately, he proved me wrong. Poor kids.

Theres an article on snopes about the oranjello and lemonjello thing and it says its a myth.

Also there have been numerous GAF posters over the years telling the same story aswell.
