Chinese authorities have once again halted the approval processes for new foreign games they setup in 2018-2020. The previous halt resulted in new regulations demanding adherence to Chinese Social values, obscenity bans & banned words, language and how dead bodies & blood are handled in the games.
Good luck getting a license now, licking that boot and praising Xi won't be enough now. Time to spread your cheeks.

A delayed approval process is eventually good, but a rushed approval process is forever bad.

Hopefully this reduces any crunch.

Mario and Luigi can not wear an overall anymore? They have to change clothing? C´mon ...

Well they don't want that stuff in their culture. Can't force them. Their choice.
It's been my observation that as soon as a culture is against some progressive value, suddenly multiculturalism and the idea of preserving various cultures goes out the window.

Very interesting competing views here. As a parent, I can't dismiss the possibility that the majority in their country wants to see kids put the controllers down. As a gamer myself, I can't dismiss the possibility that a handful of cranky old people are dictating to others who primarily disagree with them but are scared to say much.

Banning entertainment distractions in your going-towards-dystopian society is going to end brilliantly for them, I'm sure of it:

Parents are responsible for their kids. I have one and I limit the amount of time she plays video games. I think they have the right to play, but with limits, a game is not a nanny, and they need to socialize with other kids and play with toys for their age.

Other than this, this is just plain manipulation from the goverment.

This will make games better for the rest of us, right? Right?

Game companies will shun profit in favor of artistic expression. They won't care that they'll need a Chinese version and a non-Chinese version. They wouldn't just make one censored version, right? Right?

They forget that video games are actually capable of teaching some pretty useful skills, especially teamwork. Gonna just bite them in the ass taking this approach instead of properly incorporating it into their society. Good, cus fuck China.

The previous halt was done to regulate gaming just like movies where just a couple dozen select titles are chosen every year. This to make sure movies follow the rules and suck up a little extra for the privilege of accessing the Chinese market.
The Chinese cut of Ironman 3 had extra scenes and product placement just because of this. Even Chinese netizens thought it was cringe.

More like the CCP doesn't want outside influence. It's not at all fair to say that CCP speak for not even majority of the Chinese people especially not all the people.

They want to abolish video games. At least for minors it looks like. Maybe it will get worse and they will posture to abolish videogames entirely. Only time can tell.

They are also banning "effeminate" imagery which will likely affect Hollywood.

Among the new targets are media representations of men, which experts say are a cause for anxiety among the conservative, older generation of Communist Party leaders.

In recent days, regulators have ordered broadcasters to resist "abnormal aesthetics" such as "sissy" men, calling for more masculine representations in programming.

Late Wednesday, the official Xinhua news agency reported the latest edicts against gaming.

"Obscene and violent content and those breeding unhealthy tendencies, such as money-worship and effeminacy, should be removed," it said.

Enterprises who flout rules will be punished, authorities warned.

The target is driven by a perception among sections of society that "effeminate men are physically weak and emotionally fragile," University of Hong Kong associate professor Geng Song said, with the inference that 'feminine' men cannot defend the nation.

Song added that heterosexuality is seen as the only gender norm, leading to "anxiety" over more ambiguous representations of sexuality and identity.
