Which reminds me that I haven't played Gujian 3 yet. I bought a few of these a few years ago and even installed Chinese Paladin: Sword and Fairy 6 like 2 years ago and got side tracked and have not yet played it.

We've heard plenty of open world, metroidvania, deck building, rogue lite, etc. fatigue complaints, so it's fair game to throw soulslike in the mix as well. I'll give them that it looks all purty with some interesting combat going on at least.

Why do people say stuff like this?
Some people never grew up watching kung-fu movies. Just kidding, it's weird to me that some people don't like ancient China type settings, it makes for great games and movies.

I like all souls like games too, the more competition the better it is for the whole genre.

Looks like the first 3 games were released on windows. There was an announcement way back that the first game was gonna get released on the Xbox one but it never materialized.

I don't think the previous 3 games ever made it out of China. Reviews were pretty favorable. According to Wikipedia anyway.

Looks awesome. Yes keep making these souls-likes until everyone complaining 'another souls-like' learn to just stay tf out of the topic. Whatever happen to Faith of Danschant:Hereafter though? I was really looking forward to that game. Running up the bamboo trees looked so fun.

because i like the asian setting but prefer the japanese side, or high fantasy/dark fantasy ones. I can't get invested in chinese history and mithology, nor in indian or similar style, it's simply preferences, nothing against it, and for sure nothing against soulslike (they're my main genre in the last couple of years), but as i said i prefer standard high fantasy or dark fantasy

The first 3 weren't bad at all, more similar to something like FF16 with hack and slash combat and a progress system similar to older final fantasy games. This looks awesome I hope they keep the combat more hack and slashy this time.

Looks great! Im loving the East Asian aesthetics. Will never get tired of it.

If it means choosing between this or more rainbow feminist western slop, I'll choose this every day for the rest of my time gaming.

Gujian 3 wasn't bad. It was a pretty decent action RPG with a half competent story if you are into Wuxia/Xianxia.

Sword and Fairy 6 & 7 were ok but not great, IMO.

Gujian 3 is available on Steam. I don't think first two were ever translated.

Looks awesome, just got all the achievements today for Wuchang Fallen Feathers.
For everyone bitching bout Soulslikes, this ain't even a Soulslike game. Learn to do some research before whining.
Or better yet, just don't enter threads bout games you dislike. It's really that easy.

yeah ? we'll see about that, i wouldn't bet on this just because it's a preexisting IP
Ye, if only you weren't so lazy to not look up any info smh.

What's the game genre? Is it Soulslike? Is it open world?

Swords of Legends is an action RPG with a strong, well-paced main story and rich cinematic storytelling, complemented by side quests and deep exploration. Neither a Soulslike nor a fully open-world game, the gameplay structure is closer to a "wide linear" experience, allowing players to approach the adventure at their own pace within the guided progression.

How challenging is the combat?

We are not aiming for punishing difficulty or purely skill-gated combat. For example, "soul capturing" is both a narrative mechanic to the story and a core combat build. Players can capture the souls of certain monsters and summon them to assist in battle, with some offering cooperative combo attacks—such as the special drop attack triggered in the trailer when fighting alongside the Ox-Head and Horse-Face. Exploration will also yield a variety of utility items to aid in combat, and flexible weapon-skill loadouts will allow players to adapt to different enemy types. Our goal is to ensure players of all skill levels can have fun—and, as in any good RPG, enjoy the satisfying journey of growing stronger.

It's marketing bullshit, you don't use the way devs market their games in an interview to categorize them. Everytime journalists try to label their games they never like to be categorized outright because that potentially prevent the game from reaching the widest audience possible. The definition here you couldn't make more vague than that (even then, nothing here prevent the game from being a Souls-like).

They literally said it's not a Soulsike. How's that vague lol.
Soulslike audience is one of the widest, you only need to look at Elden Ring's sales performance. That's why there are so many Soulslike games being made. You aren't very bright are you?
Marketing bs, lol right. You think they'd actively market their game towards an audience they aren't trying to cater to at all? Damn you are delusional lmao

I have 3 in my Steam Library, and I think I tried playing it, but if I remember correctly, the English translation was terrible. Any idea if there's a patch to improve the translation?

Man I miss when more games used spectacle set pieces. This looks really good for the spectacle, but we have very little to go on for gameplay.

I'll keep an eye on it.
