Chloe Moretz to star in a live action 'the little mermaid' (Universal, not Disney)

It's going to be directed by M Night and you'll find out at the end that she has a sister that is a reverse Mermaid.

Is dark retelling of fairy tale that big of a market?

Probably not; but cashing in on Disney's trend of remaking animated movies into live action ones is not too bad of a business model. People usually aren't aware enough to tell the difference.

Universal has been on a roll recently, so maybe this will pan out for them. Since this is removed from the Disney version, I imagine they'll go darker with this. But you never know, Oz: The Great and Powerful was its own thing and they kept it fairly lighthearted...sorta.

It's ok to fantasize about her now right?

I think with Sofia Coppola this could have been really something.

We'll have to see what they do now that she's gone.

But I know a friend of a friend who might be in the running.

This project was more exciting when Sofia Coppola was on board. Still, Chloe Moretz is a pretty great choice for Ariel.

Wasn't Oz Disney?

I don't know why anyone would throw money behind a big budget starring vehicle for her. She's a mediocre actress and she's had minimal success at the box office.

I don't see the appeal, pretty dull actress outside of Kickass imo.

Live action LM however I'm def down for. Was weirded out the other day learning it was the first Disney movie based on a fairy tale since Sleeping Beauty. That's a 30 year gap O_O

The Mouse thought dem stories were cursed or something based on how Beauty performed.
