By staff report
Funnyman Chris Rock has been selected to host the next Oscars. Gil Cates, producer of the 77th Academy Awards telecast, made the announcement Thursday. Although the winner of both Emmy and Grammy awards has performed hosting duties for other awards shows, this will be Rock's first stint as Oscar host. Rock, a veteran of TV's "Saturday Night Live" and "In Living Color," and the star of several movies, made his mark via comedy specials and a series on HBO. "He always has something interesting to say," said Cates in a news release. "Chris represents the best of the new generation of comics. Having him host the Oscars is terrific. I can't wait." Rock currently is shooting "The Longest Yard" with former "SNL" castmate Adam Sandler. His other film credits include "Head of State," "Bad Company," "Down to Earth," "Nurse Betty," "Osmosis Jones," "New Jack City," "Lethal Weapon 4" and "Dogma." The show takes place Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.

He was the butt of jokes on Living Color about being the only black SNL member. I don't think that would make him a veteran of the show... maybe more so than Shawn.

What's wrong with Chris Rock's fingers?
Er... nothing. If you're referring to the flesh beneath his pinky finger, that's just part of his palm.

Anyway, cool. It'll be nice to see some new blood there. I'm sure the awards will suck though, more pandering to what's popular rather than good and worthy of recognition.

Watch a video of the man's hands and try telling me the same thing.

Looks like I'll be watching them this year. Chris was on Stern recently and Howard asked him if he was going to do any more award shows. He must have known something. Chris really didn't hint either way at doing any award shows, so this is a bit of a surprise.

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
Chris needs to redeem himself. I've come to the conclusion that 'Neva Scared' is just not that funny. I don't think I laughed hard one good time. His previous 2 stand ups are classics to me... Or at least that will be as time rolls on.

Boxers, Black leaders, comedians and music artists just aren't what they used to be...

Chris Rock is funny, but overrated. I cannot say that enough. Humour is mostly relative, but I just think his material can be predictable and his delivery is annoying.

Still, better than Whoopi Goldberg, and I don't appreciate Billy Crystal as much as other people seem to.
