Nah, they've been on Twitter about this thing for a while. That's where they held the poll and made the change based on the result. There's no doubt this is in reference to the male/female a/b situation.
That's why he makes specific reference that the discount is the same, etc.

There will undoubtedly be people who bought it because #Based, but I'm not sure how many. The likely explanation for the majority of sales is simply that he got a lot of attention with the very overt anti-A/B tweets, which got people talking. I've seen here on GAF people saying that it's actually good now that it's all patched up.

Yeah, probably that. I don't think people bought it specifically for that reason, but it did make a lot of noise and made people aware of the game. Plus, I hear it's been patched and is the best it's ever been.

People weren't holding off because of that. But the dev talking about it on Twitter and going viral gives them easy mindshare. People on the fence that had forgotten about the game go, "hey it sounds like it's been patched up and it's only $20. Might as well give it a try."

A few years ago I would laugh and say this is stupid and "whatever", let them just include it. I'll even say that people are wasting their time complaining about Body Type A & B, making it a bigger deal than it needs to be.
But fast forward to today, many companies started making it mandatory and having Male and Female only options basically became a sin, "out of touch", an ism, a phobe, bigotted, etc. I would now argue the other side has made it a far bigger deal than it needs to be.
Many people are now starving for the return of common sense without all the unecessary fluff and nonsense. I know this will come as a shock to many internet only dwellers who live in social media...but most people in the world know there are only 2 genders and laugh at the concept of anything else. Doesn't matter where they currently sit in the political spectrum.
Props to the CEO of CI Games for understanding this.

As much as people who defend this nonsense say its not important so why care, it obviously was enough to exist in the first place. My favorite is its not important but there is no hardship in accepting it. Well walk pass a statue then. Nothing easier. A bit of marble won't harm you.
Eh, I bought it because of the 2.0 update. I didn't even hear about the A/B body type change or even knew it existed as A/B originally in the first place. I doubt it's the body type change that drew in new sales. Also refunded it within 2 hours on Steam, because it had crazy micro-stuttering even with me playing on a 5090 with a 9800x3D

If I'm being honest, I think releasing 2.0 and all of the fixes and all of them quality of life editions they've added are the reasons for the sale type a/B while silly really wasn't the problem with this game it's now finally a complete and compelling game And I think that's what's driving the sales

Let's not forget that the devs were the ones to put Type A/B to begin with. There is a difference between hustle and grift and although I am sure they put a lot of time and resources into 2.0 I am not going to applaud them for cruising on the ride of the culture war.
