The industry has trained me to think "gold" now means "it's in a state where we can sell it where the bugs / performance optimization won't be a deal breaker."

I have high hopes for this game but every time I see a game that looks too good to be true (like this one) I wait until it's actually out and I see real world footage. I've come to expect these games end up looking like they were chopped up and vasoline smeared everywhere in actual gameplay. I hope I'm wrong and this one isn't like that.

Gold just means they can print to disk.
Its called going gold because most of the master disks were literally gold (colored).

that's not applicable these days anymore tho.
many games that don't even get physical releases report "going gold".

there was news when Alan Wake 2 went "gold".

and for Assassin's Creed Shadows for example, you can't even play the gold master version anymore, it forces an online activation and forces an update, meaning the Gold Master version is completely meaningless, it's an arbitrary version that was printed on disc, but was not expected to be even accessible to the user, rendering it entirely pointless.

My crystal ball is telling me to wait on this because it will run like shit at launch, as is customary with UE5 games. Or maybe they will pull it off like Robocop devs did.

Cool. I'm optimistic about this one - gameplay looks great, and the aesthetics are hitting that same part of the brain as Lost Odyssey. Really, really hope it delivers.

Probably a contract agreement or maybe licensing that goes live on a certain date. I dunno. Early Access has spoiled me.

Yep, it's to enable them time to do the final marketing push, which will typically use footage from the gold version of the game.

At least that's the case with AA and AAA games which will have strict marketing schedules.

Paper Mario had active parrying and i liked it. But we'll see how it fits in this case.

The art of this game looks fantastic

The combat system seems to be Final Fantasy X with Super Mario RPG style QTE's, I hope it works well
