Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Just Exposed Everyone

Those who can think rationally understand all this. For those who don't want to see it, it can't be explained, and frankly, it's not necessary. We're all different with different tastes, and the game's popularity and sales will decide everything.

Exposed game journalists as unable to assess gaming or vote logically; capable of little else besides pushing meta-narratives to "send a message."

Imagine if that's how sports worked. Just have the refs start altering the score so the underdog team with less money gets to the Super Bowl to "send a message."

Best narrative? No
Best performance? No
Best art style? No
Best indie game? Published by Kepler. No
Best debut indie game? Published by Kepler. No
Best score? No
Best RPG? No
GOTY? Maybe. Pretty subjective so I could see a case for it for some people.

Kepler Interactive
Employing around 50 people, Kepler also publishes productions from studios outside the group.
Its most notable published games include Sifu (2022), Tchia (2023), Pacific Drive (2024) and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (2025).

It was a great game which I thoroughly enjoyed, but I'm personally tired of both those salty about it as well as those that elevate it to godhood because of politics. I miss the times where we would just play games.

I should be one of the people elevating it to godhood because of politics, but I just can't do it. It's just a mediocre game to me, and no amount of "it ain't woke" is going to change that.

E33 only won because normie gaijins think anime is icky and not "mature" enough. It's nothing special to Japan culture experts such as myself, who have played games like Super Mario RPG and Lost Odyssey.

TGA should apologize to the country of Japan as well as the JRPG community.

We are all people with different tastes.

Best narrative? - It depends a lot on the player's taste.
Best performance? - It depends a lot on the player's taste.
Best indie game? Published by Kepler. No - Hollow Knight: Silksong Microsoft paid for the game's release by paying for its first day of play on GamePass. Take-Two Interactive's subsidiary Private Division partnered with Supergiant Games to distribute physical versions of Hades II. Blue Prince published by Raw Fury. Critical Role is involved with the game Dispatch, they partnered with developer AdHoc Studio, saving the project from funding issues and taking producer credits while also co-developing their own future game set in the Exandria universe with AdHoc. Do you see a problem with your logic?
Best debut indie game? Published by Kepler. No - See above

Best RPG? - It depends a lot on the player's taste.
GOTY? Maybe. - It depends a lot on the player's taste.

As I've already said, we all have different tastes. There's no game that will appeal to everyone, but there are always some that appeal to the majority.

If it increases the number of good turn-based RPG games with good production values, then yay for Clair Obscur.

It has a publisher behind it, so by the very definition of "independent", no it's not.
You should watch the video, it's addressed. Btw Kepler is literally a group of independent developer working together to publish their games and have a bigger impact.

You have built this up in your head so much.

It's not about sending a message.

It's about picking the best games in each of those categories.

Careful you do not become just like the BotW/CoD/Fortnite/WoW/Nintendo haters. Do not let this consume you. You hate something that many people love and you think you can bullet point your way into making us realize how right you always were. It doesn't work like that. It's novel and interesting that you feel this way but there will be a time when this anger will either go away or grip ahold of you, let it go my friend.

I liked the game enough I put 130 hours in to it but at the same it also missing lot of stuff I love about JRPGs.

Also don't like turn based combat that mostly rewards your reflexes which feels like I'm playing turn based action game rather than actual RPG.

But this is GAF and here they have to be hyperbolic about everything.

I was just gifted the game as an early Christmas present and I can say that so far it has one of the best prologues in gaming recently, as well as one of the best soundtracks i've heard in recent memory. So far the game has exceeded my expectations and has me completely invested in the story, characters, and entire game as a whole.

Hell no, I'm all for the glazing.

Glaze me daddy.

The video title is a bit too much "Exposed" "Cope" over a game is some real youtube ass youtube clickbait.
Yeah, honestly don't think those videos are doing any goods to the game, more of just Youtuber's farming viewership.

I don't take the awards too seriously. Seeing the cinderella story of this little team sweeping the shit was great. And seeing KCD2 get robbed was tragic! It's true drama, in the good sense of the word.

I don't care about most of the narrative around this. What it does reinforce, however, is the need to redefine "indie". We've needed to do that for a long time now, and it just never happens.

While I feel you because it's 100% something that's happening on GAF (and everywhere tbf, people are always hyperbolic about "the new stuff") yet for me personally, it's a masterpiece. I strongly connected with the characters, the story, the soundtrack, the visuals... Everything. I'm still listening to the OST and multiple songs are in my top 20 most listened on Spotify. And I've been playing for most than 30 years so it's not like I'm discovering videogames. Damn I'm old.

This game will leave a lasting impact on me and based on my own experience, I think it's fair to assume I'm not the only one feeling this way. Now for sure you and other might not connect as strongly to the game. It's totally fair, yet in this particular case, all the praise is 100% deserved imho.

I guess hik saying E33 is not the second coming of gaming christ as some say.

I stopped playing 15 hours in.
Cause modern turned based rpgs are kinda dead.

Give me ff12
Check out Crystal Project. Great non-linear exploration and job systems, and the combat is actually challenging.

Perfect game for any FF V fan.
