Class Action Lawsuit vs. Konex

Matrix and I would like to start a class action lawsuit vs. Konex for talking us into buying espn games. The last few years hes cost us at least $160 and we ended up being burned by glitch filled, arcadey games which he clearly said were amazing sim like creations. We feel if people can sue fast food places for making them fat, we can take Konex down for making us broke and stupid.

The games under the class action lawsuit:

If you would like your name added to the lawsuit, testify here in this thread. Konex can't hurt you anymore!

i....

i too was deceived by konex and VC.... they roped me in with promises of superior A.I., outstanding graphics and the best gameplay on the planet. but it was all a pyramid scheme...

if you will look at exhibit A in the first post, you will see 5 games. ESPN NFL, NBA and NFL 2k5 make the bottom of the pyramid. Then ESPN nba 2k5 and NCAA 2k5 make the middle. to top the pyramid off you need one more game... that game is MLB 2k5! DON'T FALL FOR IT! IF YOU BUY MLB 2K5 KONEX HAS WON AND THE KONEX CURSE WILL SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE WORLD! ANYTIME HE ROOTS FOR YOUR TEAM, ANYTIME HE SAYS A GAME YOU LIKE WILL BE AWESOME, THE OPPOSITE WILL HAPPEN! don't fall victim to this disease!

We have video and stat evidence of these games not falling under the sim category that konex so promised us,some of us feel Konex has infiltrated gaming-age as a spy and viral marketer for VC/SEGA/WHOEVER THE HELL YOU ARE NOW.

Leagues have fallen apart because the games have not lived up to what Konex promised, instead we have $5 soda coasters sitting in our houses, where was this greatness you promised us konex!?

BTW, I hear MLB 2K5 is hawt! :D

See folks! He's at it again...DONT FALL FOR THIS TRICK! Even with a lawsuit on its way,he pimps this new espn game...it aint right people.

I sold my copy of ESPN NBA 2K5 yesterday. It was either that, or snap the fucking disc in half due to rollercoaster ride of bullshit AI before stroking out in front of my television.

NBA2k was a really good series up until 2k2, after that it became garbage (so it was about as bad as NBA Live). Never liked their other stuff either, except Virtua Tennis which is godly.

VC football, basketball, and hockey games this year were great, and they were only 20 bucks. Quit whining.

Baseball was an abortion. That is a valid complaint.

wtf? football and basketball were pure garbage. there are times when i actually seriously questioned whether VC ACTUALLY hired a QA team or any testers. i then posted my thoughts on the subject here and at espnvideogames.com, and i was permanently banned from the message boards. it's not like i was blindly attacking the quality of the game, i backed up my qualms with it but got no response, just a banning. real mature vc!!!!!11

but, to conclude, espn nba and espn nfl were terribly awful. espn nhl hockey was cream of the crop though!

I fell for NFL ESPN but only because FMT was hyping it to be the second coming on IRC. The best football game of all time? :rolleyesbarf >:| I should have gone with my gut instinct.

I'll piggy-back this onto your existing lawsuit. I want my 20 bux back.

Why do you think they are pure garbage.

VCs idea of QC is quite amusing, yes. I'm with you in that it seems like either they have no QC department at all or that they change code right up to the release date, especially when it comes to the metagame stuff.

But despite all that, the actual game parts for NFL and NBA are quite fun and it's a lot easier to forgive the bugs if the fun is there. My friends and I still always come back to NFL2k5 to play at parties over Madden, and no one even wants to touch Live over NBA2k5. The games aren't perfect for sure, but I can't call them complete garbage if the games are fun to play and all my friends prefer to play them as well. I know that's not a popular position on this forum, but oh well, it's the truth for me.

Didn't you say you got banned from the EA forums as well :D? I'm with you though. If they can't take the heat for bugs they need to not have official forums at all.

I have no problems with NBA 2K5, but I just want a basketball game where I can bounce a ball and shoot it into a hoop, and feel like I'm not in a slam dunk contest...

As for NFL, I play Madden 2004 more than it, but I think it's a great equalizer in playing friends, because I only play it when friends are over, and it's plenty of fun in that environment. I never got to a point with it where I wasn't in some way annoyed by the single-player, thoguh.

That said, I got nailed with the worst call ever in Madden the other day. Defender intercepts my pass, but lands out of bounds. Commentator "no catch, out of bounds." But, next play, I'm on defence. Opponent's ball, 3rd and 1 on my original line of scrimmage." Try to challenge in hopes of overturning the "INT" or whatever the hell it was. Turns out I'm challenging that I caught the ball. Whatever, I'll try anything. Too bad. Play stands. Worst Madden moment ever. I've had some lame moments and lame replays, but that was just fucked up.

EDIT: And I'm glad to see NHL's not named in this, because that would be wrong. So very very wrong.

I bought NBA 2k3 or something because I thought it was where the party was at... I was let down, and no one played it online :( Konex deceived me

It's alright, the bad man can't hurt you anymore.

i have been over this a million times but i will restate it here for the record. my problem with Visual Concepts games is not that they are NEVER FUN or that they are completely horrid. I had "fun" with them at times. The thing that I am consistently finding in VC sports games is inconsistency. There is no rhyme or reason to some of the shit that happens on a regular basis in ESPN NFL. If I call a double team on Eddie Kennison, I expect the success rate of throwing to kennison on those plays to be dramatically reduced. The problem is I cannot depend on that. I will accept a completion in double and triple coverage every now and again, hey it happens in real life. But it is just a crap shoot in ESPN NFL. I don't know if my CB will play the ball right. Here are problems with the CB AI ALONE in espn (this isn't even getting into other shit wrong with the game):

* I call a bump play. My CB scoots up to the line of scrimage, only when the ball is hiked, he just stands there. The harm in this is two-fold: #1, the receiver has now gotten a clean release, and #2 my CB is now BEHIND the receiver by a few yards!

* I call a double team on a receiver. Neither CB covers the play correctly. One is stuck in an endless animation where he is somehow losing fluidity of motion and running in a "matrix mode" (as i like to call it, people who played espn nfl know what i'm talking about). The other simply doesn't make a play on the ball.

* I play a zone defense, yet my defender will not make a play on the ball unless it is IN HIS IMMEDIATE ZONE! unbelieveable

* again back to the animations. this is not a problem with the intelligence itself, but rather the animation the game chooses to display for the CB. my CB will be in perfect position to make an INT or deflection, and then he does some bullshit jump animation or dive that takes him 5 yards out of the play AND allows the receiver a wide open catch

i can go on and on with the problems i have with espn nfl if you want, but i think you get the picture. madden has problems too, but i feel it is a more realistic experience and i feel that i have a great deal of control in regards to the outcome of a play. your virtual professional athletes should not be a liability to you. if YOU called the correct play against an offense, the odds should be in your favor to have a successful play. call this "letting the computer do the work", call it what you want, but bottom line is i can't be expected to control 11 guys on the field. I AM expected to put my players in positions to succeed, and when i put them in the right positions they should succeed or at least exhibit some level of consistency to where i know what they will and wont do in any given situation. ESPN NFL doesn't give me this, madden does. case closed.

p.s. and that is only talking about the secondary play! dont get me started on the worst that espn nfl has to offer

Much of the defense is poorly implemented in NFL2k5, no doubt about it. The running can get silly, the QB running thing is laughable, and so on. But like you said, Madden is no saint in this department either. I find Madden lacking in every facet of its game, as I do NFL2k5. When it really comes down to it, all the football games out there have problems, and in fact, all of them have big problems in many departments. But they're fun, so I play both of them.

It's just that earlier you did say NFL2k5 was "pure garbage." There are some trashy things in it to be sure, but I can't call a game I have fun with pure garbage.

there are fun moments in espn nfl, but it is overall not a fun game. the flaws are such that it drains all the fun out of it. im more of a sim person, and i like playing in online leagues. if i am playing ESPN NFL 2k5 against the computer, with slider adjustments, sure i can tweak the game to where it would resemble a decent playing game. but the fact is i like to play against human opponents. and (you have seen it yourself), some of the stuff you see against human opponents is ridiculous. this happens in madden too. the difference is in madden you have to go out of your way to cheese someone and pull out glitches (such as the kick glitch, punt block glitch, etc). in ESPN, i feel like i am glitching someone JUST BY PLAYING a normal game! when i break 5 consecutive tackles against the ravens with kbar, i feel like i am cheating, but all i'm doing is playing the game. when fifty scrambles for 35 yards with kyle boller because everyone is covered, he is just playing the game, but damn it's cheesy.

same with espn nba, but whatever

But ESPN Basketball is less arcadey than Live and you KNOW THIS DM

Live has always been complete and utter garbage, but ESPN is fast catching up. I don't what they did, but ever since 2k2 they have been making each year worse then the last. The controls and weight of the players is still better than in Live, but they have gotten worse every year and the AI (never ESPN's strong point) somehow gets worse each season. It is like EA has sabatoged VC, because I can't understand how a sports game can decrease in quality year after year.

Do you really think NBA2k5 is worse than 2k4? I think it's a lot better, which isn't saying much.

I hated both equally. I generally stick to 2k2 because that is still the best bball sim around (sadly). Even though the graphics are outdated and the rosters are a joke for todays team, it is still 10X better than any of the new games.

Maybe bball sim games don't sell well so EA and VC don't put a lot of effort into them?

I dunno why everyone hates on Live, the game wasn't that bad,it was just that the online code was so horrid you couldn't play a clean game.I know that the one game of Live me and DM played was ten times better than any ESPN NBA game I played.I was the #1 player in NBA and College Hoops but I hated both of them, they're trash.NFL is even worse, which is amazing...

Thats the first time I've seen Konex post in like a month :lol

Why the hate for College Hoops? I've only had it for a short time but so far I'm liking it.

I dunno if your playing it on Live or not,but thats where the hate comes from.I've been over this a thousand times, but Jobber beat me with the Richmond Spiders (I was UK) and he took ONE outside shot all game.My big men would just set there and watch his little PG run around and then shoot a layup and do nothing and then when I try to defend the shot it's a fuckin foul every time. The A.I. is brain dead in these games. Not to mention you have a better chance of hitting a shot fading away with three people in your face than you do wide open :lol

I'd say one of the biggest things I hate about VC basketball games is the long animations for dunks/layups,it's awful how long it takes a player to finish a dunk or layup.

I would like to sign my name on the dotted line for this one!

ESPN NBA was better than Live this year, IMO. But... as we all know that's just choosing the lesser of two evils. If they fixed the whole insane amount of animations for every little flick of the analog stick thing, it would be a lot more playable. Let's not even get into when the AI doesn't want you to win and makes you miss every single open shot no matter your proximity to the rim!

I thought NBA2K5 fixed a lot of what was wrong with 2K4. How is the AI worse in 2K5?

It does seem like NBA gets the budget shaft compared to NFL. Although I think VC's is about to get a significant budget reallocation upgrade :P. But I don't really understand why Live seems to equally poorly budgeted by EA.

Live has probably been better then ESPN basketball since 03, but that isn't saying much because they are both terrible. Like I said, I think basketball games don't sell that well because it seems like no company puts any effort into them.

Why do I hate Live? It has always been total garbage to me. The controls, the weight of the players, the AI, everything seems wrong to me for what a basketball game should be. Hell, I think NBA Street has better physics than Live (and I hate NBA Street too!) and that is a arcade sim! At least in Street the players seem to have some weight, even though I hate that game too. I am sure one day EA will get it right, but that day sure as hell ain't today.

*Flashback moment against you*...ok its gone :(

You also gotta love how in ESPN NBA you can just hit the steal button anytime anyone passes the ball and you'll grab it or knock it away :lol

Not to mention what broke the game for me.......the big men AI in the paint. They run away from the basket!!!!

Shaq doing reverse 360 layups between 3 men under the hoop is hawt in ESPN NBA 2K5. Why dunk when Shaq can maneuver like Jordan under the hoop!

I add my name to the list.

Terrible, terrible games. =/ Yes, that included College Hoops as well.
