Claudia Black won the hearts of many Stargate fans this year, playing the sexy thief Vala Mal Doran in eight episodes of SG-1's ninth season. Now Black is set to join the long-running series as a full-time cast member. Black will join Ben Browder ("Cameron Mitchell"), Amanda Tapping ("Samantha Carter"), Christopher Judge ("Teal'c"), Michael Shanks ("Daniel Jackson"), and Beau Bridges ("Hank Landry") for the successful series' tenth season, premiering next summer on The SCI FI Channel reports Gateworld.

The 33-year-old, Sydney-born actress is best known to sci-fi fans as Officer Aeryn Sun on SCI FI's late, lamented series "Farscape". She has also appeared in such films and TV series as "Pitch Black," "Queen of the Damned," Hercules, and more. She made her first Stargate appearance in Season Eight, hijacking the Earth ship Prometheus and attempting to sell it to a pair of fellow thieves in "Prometheus Unbound." Black appeared in the first six episodes of Season Nine, pinch-hitting for co-star Amanda Tapping during her maternity leave. Vala will return for the final two episodes of the season this March.

The full principal casts of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis have officially signed on for another year of adventures, The SCI FI Channel announced today.

Ben Browder ("Cameron Mitchell"), Amanda Tapping ("Samantha Carter"), Christopher Judge ("Teal'c"), Michael Shanks ("Daniel Jackson"), and Beau Bridges ("Hank Landry") will return for the record-breaking tenth season of SG-1. The team will be joined by newcomer Claudia Black ("Vala Mal Doran"), SG-1's newest full-time cast member.

Atlantis's Joe Flanigan ("John Sheppard"), Torri Higginson ("Elizabeth Weir"), David Hewlett ("Rodney McKay"), Rachel Luttrell ("Teyla Emmagan"), Paul McGillion ("Carson Beckett"), and Jason Momoa ("Ronon Dex") will return for Season Three of the hit spin-off series.

Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper will return as executive producers on both series.

Both shows enter production in early 2006 for a summer premiere on SCI FI. The current season returns with all-new episodes January 6.

I can't believe it has been 10 years. As much as I like Stargate...they should let the tenth season be the last. Maybe I'm just saying that because I've recently fallen in love with Atlantis.

That's pretty awesome. We've complained about replacements like Mitchell just ending up poor imitations of whomever they're replacing, but Vala brings something very different to the table. Especially nice that they're not just bringing her in because they're losing someone else.

That rocks I really liked her character on SG-1 and was pissed when they... beamed her friggin away.... sweet so she returns in the last two eps of this season(9) and then is back for season 10... <Sigh> Lord please let this Ori shit end THIS season...

This is great the only thing better would be news that they are getting rid of Bowders lame ass stiff character, followed by them aborting this stupid Ori business. Val has been the only great thing about the show this season.

That was actually the best episode of the season. They really did come across as a threat in that episode. Enough of sending shitty Priors through the Stargate...let's see that Ori invasion fleet.
