Takahiro Kimura is returning to design the characters, and Yoshimitsu Ohashi, who worked on R2, is directing the series. This anime is stated to be part of a 10-year project, can't wait to see what follows.
I'm dYING with excitement holy shit I need to rewatch the anime right now, and finally get around to finishing the movies.

This franchise(?) confuses me. I saw the first two seasons way back when, and it was great. Then they kept announcing spin-offs and stuff that I don't even know if they came out at all, and now here's another announcement for... whatever the heck this is. So what, is this a sequel? Alternate timeline? Timetravel to the sengoku era?

Yeah, it's a big franchise now. Another notable recent entry is the five-part Akito the Exiled film series.

I dunno exactly what you mean. Z of the Recapture will be the third season of Code Geass to air though! Besides that, it's probably easy to mistake Akito the Exiled (five films) as a third season.
