Cold Sores - Any Secret Ailements?

I've had cold sores since I was in elementary school. They always boil up large, are painful, and last for about a week.

You feel hideous and don't want to go anywhere but you can't take work off for them. What sucks is my job is sales so I'm being the face of my company and I know people are staring at the giant blob on my lip if I medicate it or not.

When I put abreva on it it just looks like a giant cum stain so I've had to deal with jizz jokes from people growing up too when my lip feels like it's on fire.

Has anyone found a medication that actually works to prevent them from forming if you feel the tingling coming on that one is coming or in its early stages? Or a medication that actually can get rid of them in 24-48 hours?

Abreva only works to soothe the fire pain for like a hour then it's itchy and burning unless I reapply.

I hate this.

Some day there will be a cure for these damn things. I have a spot that flares up occasionally, thankfully not often, but I wonder the same. Is there no thin bandage you can put over it?

I've never done a bandaid. The idea of pulling that off on it sounds painful, plus covering it up seems like it may lead to a slower healing period? I try to not touch them at all except applying meds. I've made the mistake in the past of accidentally brushing against a few in the past and they get super pissed and will double/triple in size from being irritated. On top of that last longer.

Aren't there anti-virals available to keep them in check? A friend who has them also told me he takes lysine or some kind of amino acid for prevention but I have no idea if that's actually supposed to work or not.

When it's really cold and the wind blows away all the moisture from my lips I see flare ups and redness so I usually just bundle up, get warm and cover my face with a mask to not get hit by the wind and drink a lot of liquids with greens/broccoli and good fats and lot of lemon to stay hydrated only reason I like sweating and try to sweat nowadays I'm scared having dry skin it's easier to get rid of old skin eating some garlic/onions can help with that too and lot of lemon and make new skin I like legumes (beans lentils hummus tofu/tempeh peanut butter are rich in lysine) and collagen powder and something with copper (cocoa mushrooms) and vitamin c to make new skin/produce more collagen. Don't see sh!t barely anymore my lips weren't made for cold weather no homo. Our lips/face contain tiny blood vessels we need to be warm for blood/nutrients to reach those areas better. Lot of ppl also go bald and lose their hair that way too because they don't keep warm enough it's hard for blood/nutrients to reach ur scalp if ur cold u need to be sweating go outside when it's warm and wear some layers

Those insect bite heat pens actually work on cold sores. Isn't very pleasant for a few seconds but it's healing much faster.

I have a suggestion for this. Medicate your lip and wear the most comfortable and breathable cloth mask you can find. Then just tell co-workers that someone in your house has covid, and you're just trying to reduce the chance that anyone else could possibly get it.

Then again, this could be a good or bad idea depending on what part of the country you're from and what business you're in.

I laughed harder than I should've at the massive no punctuation run on sentence you opened with.

Good info here though.

Thing about lysine is they are these large pills you have to take everyday to keep it at bay. So 365 days a year.

I don't have it in me to do that or stay consistent. I did take one pill when I felt the tingling though in case it would help.

It sucks to have to take a pill all year to have a chance.

I pull the sore off and use aftershave to burn the cunt out, it's gonna scab regardless, at least this is quicker to heal

Same.
I get cold sores on my nose, around the nostril. Been getting them since I was a little kid. They use to be large, but now I manage to keep it small when they appear. The thing is there is a warning sign when it's coming on. I get a tingly sensation, and then it starts to feel like a burn. I treat it with Abreva too. If I use it when the tingly sensation happens, I can keep it small or not appear at all. If I use it wen the burning feeling happens, then it's too late, but Abreva keeps it small enough. It's embarrassing as an adult to get these cold sores, and you're right, I can't take time off work because of it.
One way I get it bad is when I have a cold and blow my nose often with toilet paper, This will bring on a cold sore, so now I use actual tissue paper. It took decades to figure out how to minimalize the outbreak.

These exist for cold sores:
I don't know how good they are because I don't get them but I've bought them for family before and they said it was good (not sure if they were just being nice because I bought them or they were effective)

castor oil (just a few drops) can help as well, my father inlaw gets them sometimes and swears by that stuff.

Don't do the old wives tale remedies.

Get the cream version of this. You can get a branded one in the UK called Zovirax.

It stops the blisters and spreading straight away, so you can then concentrate on putting healing creams on to stop the scabbing up.

No creams or drugs. Still ends up breaking out usually, just quicker and it's messy.

The secret is to put an ice cube on it as soon as you feel it appearing. Direct contact, multiple times at 10-15 mins a time on day 1 and 2 and it won't get to the later troublesome phases.

How does that help? The cause of cold sores is viral.

Yeah herpes is oneslippery mofo since it hides dormant within the cells, and manifests only when you're about to go on a date or start a new job. Hopefully the boffins find the cure for the damn thing one day. Along with Asthma.

I used to get them once or twice a year, but haven't the last couple of years. Make sure you take care of your immune system. Get 6-8 of restful sleep (not snoring, get checked for sleep apnea if you do) and work on not being overly stressed. I used to take the lysine pills which I think may have helped but there isn't a scientific way to know for sure, could have been coincidence but I think they did help (this was over 2 years ago). Also, about 2 1/2 years ago I started getting a prescription from my doctor for Valacylovier pills. I get a refill every year since they expire (I'm on my third bottle at this point), but I've never actually used it because I haven't gotten them since. But my doctor says it's a good idea to have them in hand in case of a flareup and they are generic so they are pretty cheap.

Come to think of it, ever since starting to use my CPAP machine I haven't gotten I wonder if that had anything to do with it, or it's only coincidence.

Undoubtedly. Quality sleep will reduce your stress hormones. Stress hormones (ie cortisol) is what leads to outbreaks

Like others have mentioned, if it's herpes (likely, if it's on the lip), acyclovir. Toothpaste also works wonders. If it's a cold sore inside your mouth, best to burn that motherfucker with salt. It's painful but it speeds up healing x10.
