What colleges are you guys going to or looking into?

I've been on a few college visiting trips this summer (they are hell). Hopefully I'm almost done:

Interests:
Scranton
Bucknell
Loyola
Geneseo

Kind of interested but not really:
Fairfield
Ithaca
Binghamton
Cornell (I just want to apply here to see if I could get in. I think it would be too much pressure if I actually went)

Rest is a blur:
Villanova
Eckerd (little Florida college my grandparents live near)
Quinnipiac
Providence

Seeing tomorrow:
Lafayette
Lehigh

Seeing sometime when I get back home:
Stony Brook
Hoftsra

So yeah I've already visited a lot more than expected. :(

Unless it's really bad the college you choose isn't that big a deal since you'll just get used to it after being there for a while. Do you want a big school or small school? Rural, suburb or urban? A party school with a big emphasis on sports? After you go to a bunch of colleges they all become a blur and you can't tell one from another which is basically how it really is.

I'm going to the University of Dayton. I like it so far (it's only been two weeks) and there are a surprising amount of out-of-state kids here.

Really though, all the schools I looked at were pretty much the same at their core.

If you're looking at SUNY schools, Binghamton is probably the best of them all, Buffalo isn't too shabby either. I don't know a whole lot about Stony Brook outside of the fact that it's a HELL of a long drive out there. :P

And shit, shoot for the gold. Cornell's campus is gorgeous, although when I was looking at schools the conventional wisdom that it was easier than most ivy schools in terms of admission, but academically just as difficult as the rest. Maybe that's changed, I dunno. I'm still bitter that the sole reason they rejected me was because I didn't apply early admission.

unless you really care about what the campus looks like... whats the point of visiting?

I only visited 2 before decided visiting blows and was utterly pointless.

Well personally I liked Geneseo better than Binghamton. But Geneseo is a HELL of a long drive for me (6-7 hours away). Stony Brook is close since I live on the island.

Are you sure Cornell didn't accept you just because you didn't do early admission? I know early admission is easier to get in basically any college so I'll be doing that for all my college applications. Bucknell said they were 'binding' so does that mean I would have to go if they accepted me?

At first I really didn't want to bother with visiting colleges but I'm really glad I did now. Although, yes, I'd have to get used to the college anyway some colleges definately feel better than others. Plus the tours and information sessions are a lot easier than navigating through the college's websites which usually don't give you a right interpretation of the college.

They basically stated as much in the rejection letter. And binding early admissions are just that, although I'm sure if there are extreme, mitigating circumstances there MIGHT be ways out. I never did it, so I can't say for certain.

Visiting them really is key, blind applications are never a good idea.

Ah, sweet UD. How such a small school could accumulate such a huge amount of alcohol will never cease to amaze me.

My father went to Scranton U, and he really loved it there. Granted, that was in the 70s.
Due to having relatives there, I've spent a lot of time in Scranton. Its a pretty decent place. And one of the small towns around it, Old Forge, has the BEST. PIZZA. EVER.

Johns Hopkins University
Biomedical engineering major (we are ranked #1 in the country in this field)

Ask me if you're visiting colleges and are interested in JHU. I've given a couple tours already to people I met online.

Did you go? It really is amazing; on weekends the student neighborhood becomes one giant throbbing mass of drunken bodies.

UT Knoxville.

College is what you make out of it much more so than what school you go to.

Haha, really? The one in St. Pete? Pretty small school, I didn't expect to see anyone from here going there. My grandparents live right down the road, say hi to them for me.

I went to the University of Scranton. Kind of pricey, but I'd highly recommend it. Strong liberal arts and pre-med programs. One of the first dedicated comp.sci programs in the country.

What are you studying?

Undecided for the most part. I'm thinking something Business related but honestly I'm just looking for a college that offers a lot of different majors.

Bucknell is really hard to get into. My brother who was on high honors, and got a 1380 on his SAT's didn't get in(he also had a lot of activities). Also, my cousin who got a 1590 on his SAT's and was second a LARGE class didn't get in.

I myself went to Cornell. It's beautiful, and it's by far the nicest campus I've ever been to. Of course, now I just need to get accepted ;).

Yeah Bucknell is really selective.

Hmm.. there's a slight chance I was your tour guide when you visited Nova. At the very least I probably gave you some admissions info from us ; )

Anyway, I'm at Villanova and I love it, so if you have any questions just lemme know.

I think the guides name was Kenneth.

I'm actually in my last semester at Miami U of OH, which is about an hour away. Several of my friends from high school went to UD and introduced me to their friends. Before I knew it, I was making at least one trip each month to party there. Lots of memories(and incriminating photos) of parties in the ghetto and darkside.

What? Two senior Redhawks on GAF? Posting within two minutes of one another? My mind is blown and all feelings of individuality I once had are out the door.

Im from NY and I have looked at:

RIT
Syracuse
SUNY Fredonia, Geneseo, Brockport

So far I really like RIT and SUNY Fredonia

A party school with a big emphasis on sports?

Names please. I need someplace to relax after years of studying here, and my faculty has made 6-12 months collegetime in another country mandatory. Either American Party Uni or Singapore/Suwon for me.

Queens College woOt! Studying law. =)

This school rocks. The campus rocks. I have hot teachers with tig ol' bitties and the girls are insanely fucking gorgeous! I've died and gone to heaven.

im a freshmen at the school of visual art in manhatten and im a computer art major studying computer animation

How are you going to apply to all of your schools early admissions? If you get into one like that isn't it a binding agreement to go there? If you get into more than one with early admissions than you might be in some big trouble (money wise, it's not like they're going to shoot you).

Anyway, college searches kind of suck. I didn't really look at a lot of them... I visited Penn, Bucknell, Case Western Reserve, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Penn State. Ended up at Penn State because I love it here (Dad and brother are alums) and I got into their honors program which is top notch. My aunt went to Bucknell and liked it but I needed somewhere to really experience the whole college thing and PSU was the place. Just go where you are most comfortable and everything should work out fine.

Na, a lot of the ones I'm interested in are non-binding.

Wait, what the fuck kind of school actually tells you why they rejected you?

I do hate early decision programs, though... they're just so damn economically biased. I think you might be able to get out of a "binding" decision if, for instance, the financial aid offer really isn't sufficient... though you'd probably have trouble arguing that.

Central Michigan Univerisity.

We have a penchant for alcohol. For instance, with the third quarter winding down in our game against Indiana University last night, we had already planned on rushing the field and taking the goalposts down. That was a foregone conclusion.

A riot probably would have ensued... had we won.

Only real beef is this douchebag professor I have with a chip on his shoulder, cuz he thinks everyones got a problem with him cuz he's black. I sent him an email trying to tell him which treaties I'd discuss for this int'l law, grad-level class I'm taking, and I get like a 4 word reply saying "submit treaty report asap". Thanks, guy. Really... thanks a whole fucking bunch.

Fuck. If I didn't need this class to graduate, I wouldn't take it, but he's a douche, won't stay anywhere NEAR the syllabus, etc. Actually, fuck it. I tried to take the bull by the horn and show some real character by being one of the first people in the class to get my shit done, and he won't clarify shit? Fuck it. Let someone else be the hero. I'll take the class and get mine and that's it. GAH!!!!

Sorry for the rant. Don't go to Central Michigan University unless you intend to drink more than study. In which case you should probably go to Central Michigan University.... oh yeah. NINTH BEST COLLEGE SPORTS BAR IN THE NATION, BABY!!!

Hey, I thought it was odd, too. But they're the ones who hauled me up to campus at their own expense to visit; prior to that the school wasn't even on my radar. So maybe I was just on some special list or something and got a more-personalized form letter.

:: shrug ::

Currently in my first semester at Broome Community College which is about 15 minutes from Binghamton University. I live about 15 minutes from BCC.

After I'm done with BCC, I'm considering heading to Ithaca, which is about 15 mintues from Cornell :lol Everything is 15 minutes in my college life.

I suggest trying to go to a decent college that's not far from a fairly big city. I'm at the University Of Florida now and there's nothing in the town except for the college. Tons of drunk sorority chicks though.

tt, where are you from?

I'd imagine you're from some place in Pennsylvania, seeing as how you've listed schools as that are all relatively close to me.

I go to King's College (catholic college), which is about 15 minutes away from University of Scranton, and I live in Wilkes-Barre, which is the "sister city" to Scranton.

My girlfriend tried unsucessfully to get into Bucknell, as did one of our validictorians(sp) who had a 14XX on her SATs. Very tough to get into.

I've got a friend at Lafayette and he loves it there. He's your typical gamer guy and everything, very much like someone who would post here (if that makes any difference).

I've got two friends at Villanova, and while it's a good school, my understanding of it is that it's filled with very rich snobs.

I'm pretty sure that same validictorian I mentioned before goes to Lehigh, and she's enjoying herself there.

I hope I've been a help.

I'm actually from Long Island, NY. I didn't realize Bucknell was so hard to get into. Villanova I wasn't too fond of anyway. I still really like Scranton and Lafayette is cool too. Thanks for the info.

I believe Scranton is some kind of Jesuit college or something. I don't know if you know that or not, but I'm sure you do.

I'd really recommend that you take a look into Kings, if only to get a bit of information about it. The classes are small, so you get very good 1 on 1 relationships with your professors. The kids that dorm seem pretty happy with their experience, as well.

edit: Oh, and Kings is supposed to have a FANTASTIC business program. Might interest you.
